This is an opportunity to lead a Professional Services (Field Engineering) team, assisting customers with implementing Canonical's open source solutions across public clouds and data centers. The role involves working with technologies such as Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, MLops platforms, and data platforms. As the company expands into new industries like telco, finance, healthcare, and media, we develop new open source solutions to meet diverse needs.

We believe Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers, capable of troubleshooting, technical presales, and contributing to project delivery. They should also focus on shaping team direction, focus, and growth, fostering management skills and soft skills in engineers.

The role involves managing a team of cloud solutions architects working directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions, including Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and PostgreSQL. Managers are responsible for line management, career guidance, technical representation, collaboration, and active participation in presales.

Location: This is a home-based role managing a team within your time zone.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Leading and developing a team of engineers from graduate to senior levels
2. Remote work within a single major time zone
3. Mentoring, coaching, and providing career development feedback
4. Monitoring team health and implementing engineering processes
5. Representing the team and products to stakeholders and customers
6. Promoting best engineering and organizational practices
7. Planning and managing project progress

Ideal candidate profile:

• Knowledge of cloud computing (Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph)
• Practical Linux and networking skills
• Experience in technical presales
• Strong communication skills in English
• Passion for developing and growing people
• Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers
• Organized with a track record of delivering high-quality results
• High academic achievement
• Willingness to travel up to 40%

Additional desirable skills:

• Spanish or French language skills
• Python knowledge
• Experience collaborating with external partners and internal teams
