Join to apply for the Cloud Professional Services Manager role at Canonical.

This is an opportunity to lead a Professional Services team (also known as Field Engineering), helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions across public clouds and data centers. The team works with a broad spectrum of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and sophisticated open source solutions like MLops platforms and data platforms. As we expand into new industries such as telco, finance, healthcare, and media, we develop new open source solutions to meet industry-specific needs.

We believe Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers, comfortable troubleshooting and engaging in technical presales. They contribute technically but focus more on guiding their team’s direction and delivery. We also focus on growing management skills and soft skills for engineers interested in management roles.

Our goal is to make open source more accessible, reliable, and secure. We select engineers globally for brilliance and motivation. Our managers help teams achieve more and take pride in their results.

The role of a Cloud Professional Services Manager at Canonical

The Field Engineering team designs private and public cloud solutions tailored to customer workloads, deploying and testing technologies like OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, among others. Managers oversee technical and project aspects, participate in presales, and collaborate across teams and with customers.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Leading and developing a team of engineers from graduate to senior levels.
2. Working remotely within a single major time zone.
3. Mentoring, coaching, and providing career guidance.
4. Monitoring team health and implementing engineering processes.
5. Representing the team to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
6. Promoting best engineering and organizational practices.
7. Managing project progress and collaborating with leadership.

Desired skills and experience:

• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph).
• Practical Linux and networking skills.
• Experience in technical presales.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Experience in developing and leading engineering teams.
• Academic excellence and willingness to travel up to 40%.

Additional desirable skills:

• Second language (Spanish or French).
• Python programming.
• Experience with external partnerships and stakeholder feedback.
