This role involves leading a Professional Services team (Field Engineering) to assist customers with Canonical's open source solutions across public clouds and data centers. The team works with a range of technologies including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, MLops platforms, and data platforms. As the company expands into new industries such as telco, finance, healthcare, and media, it designs and develops new open source solutions to meet industry-specific needs.
We believe engineering managers should be outstanding engineers, comfortable troubleshooting and engaging in technical presales. They should contribute technically but primarily focus on guiding the team's direction and growth. We promote management skills and train engineers interested in soft skills to become managers.
Our goal is to make open source more accessible, reliable, and secure, striving to provide 'most software to most companies.' We select engineers globally for brilliance and motivation, with our managers helping teams achieve their potential and take pride in their work.
The Field Engineering team designs private and public cloud solutions tailored to customer workloads, deploying and testing technologies like Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and PostgreSQL. Managers oversee technical delivery, participate in presales, and coordinate with support and managed services teams.
Responsibilities include line management, mentoring, representing the team technically, fostering collaboration, and participating in presales to meet quarterly goals.
