Job summary

City and County of San Francisco seeks an experienced Cloud Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team, supporting Cloud 2030 migration of ~1,700 workloads to cloud platforms. You will design and deploy cloud infrastructure, automate deployments, and modernize legacy codebases with containerization and IaC practices.

Qualifications

• Associa te degree or equivalent credits in CS/CE/IS or related field.
• 1 year of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining a system or platform components.
• Desirable: hands-on cloud platform experience (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud)
• Proficiency in Terraform or OpenTofu configurations, including modules and state management.
• Experience building or maintaining automated deployment pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or equivalent).
• Solid programming foundation in languages such as Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or C#.
• Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools in a development workflow.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu.
• Build and maintain GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for infra and app deployments.
• Migrate applications and databases with senior engineering guidance.
• Modernize legacy apps for cloud deployment with containerization and CI/CD.
• Develop custom apps, automation tools, and internal platform services.
• Migrate databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and ensure high availability.
• Support security/compliance controls per CJIS and HIPAA patterns.
• Triage issues, improve monitoring, and assist in backup/recovery testing.
• Participate in code reviews and use AI-assisted development tools with proper testing.
• Document infrastructure and deployment procedures; share knowledge across teams.
