Position Summary

Strategic Communications seeks a hands-on Senior AWS MAP Assessment & Mobilization Architect to lead cloud assessments, design secure target-state architectures, and prepare customers for AWS migration and modernization.

This role leads MAP Assess and Mobilize planning—from discovery and readiness analysis through landing-zone design, migration roadmaps, pilots, and implementation handoff. It requires practical AWS engineering experience but is not a routine migration-execution role.

Required: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification
Primary Responsibilities
Assessment, Architecture, and Mobilization
  • Lead AWS MAP Assess and Mobilize engagements from discovery through executive and technical recommendations.
  • Evaluate business goals, organizational readiness, application portfolios, infrastructure, dependencies, security, compliance, cost, licensing, and migration risk.
  • Validate discovery data and recommend workload dispositions, migration groups, pilots, waves, and business-case inputs.
  • Design secure, resilient, cost-conscious AWS and AWS GovCloud target architectures and landing zones using Well-Architected principles.
  • Define multi-account, identity, network, security, observability, backup, recovery, governance, automation, hybrid connectivity, and operating-model requirements.
  • Produce architecture diagrams and decision records that clearly document alternatives, constraints, tradeoffs, assumptions, and risks.
  • Turn findings into actionable roadmaps with workstreams, owners, milestones, dependencies, estimates, and acceptance criteria.
Migration Strategy and Implementation Handoff
  • Develop migration and modernization strategies, workload patterns, wave plans, testing, cutover, rollback, and validation approaches.
  • Plan and support pilots that validate architecture, connectivity, security, tooling, and operational assumptions.
  • Produce implementation-ready handoff packages and guide delivery teams through designs, sequencing, risks, and acceptance requirements.
  • Review estimates and implementation plans; serve as architecture authority for high-risk decisions and readiness reviews.
  • Use pilot and early-wave lessons to refine later delivery.
Hands-On Technical Responsibilities
  • Build or validate AWS proof-of-concept environments and infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or similar frameworks.
  • Test account structures, identity, connectivity, DNS, security, logging, monitoring, backup, recovery, and migration tooling.
  • Troubleshoot complex design and migration-planning issues, review partner work, and create reusable patterns and standards.
Program Support and Practice Leadership
  • Qualify MAP opportunities and define proposal and statement-of-work scope, assumptions, staffing, schedules, deliverables, and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate with customers, AWS, distributors, and specialist partners while maintaining accurate, auditable program documentation.
  • Build repeatable methods, templates, architecture patterns, quality standards, and handoff procedures.
  • Peer-review delivery artifacts, preserve evidence and decisions, ensure partner transparency and knowledge transfer, and mentor internal engineers.
Primary Customer Deliverables
  • Executive and current-state assessment summaries, readiness analyses, workload dispositions, business-case inputs, and risk register
  • Target-state architecture, landing-zone requirements, and account, identity, network, security, observability, backup, recovery, and operating-model designs
  • Migration strategy, workload patterns, pilot and wave plans, tooling recommendations, estimates, and implementation roadmap
  • Testing, cutover, rollback, validation, acceptance, and delivery handoff package

Deliverables must be evidence-based, technically defensible, clear to executive and technical audiences, and detailed enough to support approval, budgeting, acquisition, and implementation.

Required Qualifications
  • Active AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification.
  • Eight or more years in infrastructure or cloud architecture, systems engineering, application migration, professional services, or related technical delivery, including five or more recent years of hands-on AWS experience.
  • Proven leadership of AWS MAP Assess engagements and the architecture and planning portions of MAP Mobilize engagements.
  • Experience producing portfolio assessments, business-case inputs, target architectures, migration strategies, wave plans, roadmaps, and implementation-ready handoffs.
  • Hands-on production migration and pilot experience, including landing zones, multi-account environments, identity, hybrid networking, security, observability, backup, recovery, governance, migration tools, and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows, Linux, VMware, networking, storage, identity, relational databases, backup, monitoring, and hybrid-cloud integration.
  • Ability to lead executive and technical workshops and produce clear diagrams, plans, estimates, decisions, and recommendations.
  • Strong technical writing, analysis, presentation, facilitation, troubleshooting estimation, and risk-communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as required; U.S. citizenship; and ability to meet applicable public-sector background, public-trust, or clearance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional AWS Professional or Specialty certifications and experience with MAP Migrate/Modernize.
  • AWS GovCloud and public-sector or regulated-industry experience, including frameworks such as NIST, FedRAMP, FISMA, StateRAMP, CJIS, HIPAA, or PCI DSS.
  • Experience with major enterprise platforms, AWS migration and governance services, dependency mapping, cloud economics, licensing, FinOps, and total cost of ownership.
  • Consulting, professional-services, customer-facing architecture, senior presales, reusable delivery methods, or partner-led team experience.
Physical Requirements:

Primarily sedentary office work, with standing or walking up to 20% of the time. Requires simultaneous use of multiple monitors, software programs, a desk phone, mouse, and keyboard. Occasional business travel is expected, not to exceed approximately 10% annually.

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • paid vacation, sick days, and holidays.
Other Benefits:
  • Dog-friendly corporate office, wellness incentives, and referral bonuses.
Screening Requirements:

Background check and drug testing, preferred US Citizen capable of obtaining security clearance.
