Job summary

CALAMP WIRELESS NETWORKS CORPORATION in Carlsbad, CA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Tech Lead) to own the technical direction of our Cloud Microservices platform. You will lead an 8+ engineer team across the US and offshore, while staying hands-on with critical Java microservices.

You will drive architecture, standards, and delivery with a strong emphasis on production reliability, automation, and cross-functional collaboration with product and architecture teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend software engineering experience with production systems.
• 2+ years in a tech lead or equivalent, guiding design across a team.
• Experience leading or working with distributed teams across time zones, including offshore.
• Deep proficiency in Java, including RESTful and event-driven microservices.
• Experience designing and operating distributed, scalable systems on AWS (EC2/Lambda, S3) with SQL and NoSQL datastores.
• Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes.
• Strong production ownership: observability, incident leadership, root-cause analysis.
• Excellent written communication: design docs and work specs.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural direction for the team’s services and ensure platform coherence.
• Provide day-to-day technical leadership for a distributed team across US and offshore.
• Oversee delivery: plan releases, scrums, and ensure cross-time-zone handoffs are clean.
• Set and enforce coding, testing, and deployment standards.
• Remain hands-on by building and shipping critical Java microservices.
• Identify recurring toil and drive automation and modernization.
• Own incident response and blameless postmortems; drive lasting fixes.
• Mentor engineers with pair programming and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with product/architecture to translate business needs into technical plans.
