Rampant Technologies is seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable cloud and on‑prem infrastructure supporting mission critical services. You will administer Linux, architect networking, storage, compute, and implement infrastructure as code.

The role emphasizes Kubernetes clusters, CNCF tooling, CI/CD, security hardening, and on‑call reliability. Onsite roles across CO/VA locations are expected.

Competenze

  • Experience administering Linux in production environments.
  • Experience installing and operating Kubernetes clusters in production.

  • Proficient with Terraform or similar IaC tooling.

Job Summary

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable cloud and on-premises infrastructure that supports mission-critical applications and services. This includes administering and hardening Linux systems, architecting networking, storage, and compute resources, and building infrastructure as code to ensure environments are repeatable and version-controlled. A core focus of the role is installing, configuring, and maintaining Kubernetes clusters and the foundational CNCF tooling that runs on top of them, including monitoring, ingress, service mesh, and certificate management.

Beyond day-to-day infrastructure operations, this role partners closely with development and platform teams to translate application requirements into reliable, secure infrastructure solutions. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, enforcing security best practices such as identity and access management and secrets management, and participating in on-call rotations to maintain system reliability and uptime. The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer also documents infrastructure architecture and operational procedures, evaluates new tools and practices to improve efficiency and maturity, and contributes to the team's overall technical direction.

Employment for this position is contingent upon contract award to Rampant Technologies. Final selection, start date, and offer of employment are subject to contract terms and client approval.

Required Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience administering Linux systems in production environments, including shell scripting for automation
  • Proven experience installing, configuring, and operating Kubernetes clusters in production, including troubleshooting and upgrades
  • Working knowledge of core CNCF projects such as Prometheus, Helm, containerd
  • Practical experience with infrastructure as code tooling, particularly Terraform or equivalent, for provisioning cloud and/or on-prem resources
  • Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including core compute, networking, and storage services
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, load balancing, VPNs, firewalls, and TCP/IP
  • Experience with containerization technologies (Docker/containerd) and container image management
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows
  • Understanding of security best practices including secrets management, vulnerability scanning/remediation, and security hardening of Linux systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues under pressure
Desired Skills
  • Experience operating in hybrid environments that span both on-premises data centers and public cloud
  • Scripting proficiency in Bash, Python, or Go for building internal tooling and automation
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, and/or Puppet
  • Familiarity with storage solutions for Kubernetes (Rook Ceph, MinIO, or cloud-native persistent storage options)
  • Experience with GPU-enabled infrastructure or workloads, particularly in support of AI/ML use cases
  • Relevant certifications such as CKA, CKAD, AWS/Azure/GCP certifications, or RHCE
  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or contributing to a team's technical direction
  • Experience working in an agile and cross-functional team environments
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a technical discipline is desired, with three (4) years of relevant experience
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
Certifications and Credentials
  • Active TS/SCI w/ Poly required
  • IA certification required; i.e. Security+ CE or greater
Total Compensation

The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $200,000, depending on education and experience.

The salary range listed is a general guideline for this position. Final compensation will be based on factors such as role scope, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, customer needs, contract requirements, and business considerations. Depending on the role and contract, employees may be eligible for additional compensation, including overtime, shift differentials, incentive pay, or discretionary bonuses.

For multi-location roles, the posted salary range may reflect a national or role-based range and may vary by location and contract requirements.
