Join to apply for the Cloud Field Engineering Manager role at Canonical.

This is an opportunity to lead a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions in public clouds and data centers. The role involves working across cloud offerings, from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and open source solutions like MLops platforms and data platforms. As the company expands into new industries, the role includes designing and developing new open source solutions.

Engineering Managers at Canonical should be outstanding engineers, capable of troubleshooting and engaging in technical presales. They contribute technically but primarily focus on shaping team direction, focus, and delivery. The company values soft skills development and management training.

The role involves managing cloud solutions architects, designing private/public cloud solutions, deploying and testing technologies, and participating in presales discussions. Responsibilities include team management, technical representation, collaboration, and strategic planning.

Location: Home-based, managing a team in your time zone.

Key responsibilities:

1. Lead and develop a team of Field engineers across presales and professional services.
2. Solve customer problems and act as a trusted advisor.
3. Work remotely within a single major time zone.
4. Mentor and provide career feedback.
5. Monitor team health and implement engineering processes.
6. Represent the team to stakeholders and customers.
7. Develop engineering practices and manage project progress.
8. Participate in leadership and collaboration efforts.

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph).
• Linux and networking experience.
• Experience in technical presales.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Experience in leading and mentoring engineers.
• Organizational skills and a strong academic background.
• Willingness to travel up to 40%.

Additional skills:

• Second language (Spanish or French) preferred.
• Python knowledge.
• Experience with external partnerships and stakeholder feedback.
