Job summary

FedEx Dataworks seeks a Cloud Engineer Principal to lead end-to-end cloud initiatives, deploying, integrating, and managing hybrid services for large-scale analytical apps. You’ll champion scalable provisioning and secure data access, set infrastructure standards, and drive IaC with automation tools.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with architects and peers to ensure top performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field; PhD preferred.
• 7+ years in cloud engineering or related leadership roles.
• Experience leading multi-function project teams and mentoring engineers.
• Strong cloud platform experience and automation mindset.

• Own critical engineering initiatives including deployment and management of cloud services.
• Lead provisioning, scalability, and security of enterprise data infrastructure.

Domicile Information

This is a hybrid position located in Memphis TN, Plano TX, or Pittsburg PA. Candidates must live within 50 miles of the campus location. Employees will be required to work at the FedEx campus location several times per week.

Essential Functions

Takes end-to-end ownership and responsibility over critical engineering initiatives including deployment, integration, and management of private, public, and/or hybrid cloud platform services supporting the development of complex analytical applications at enterprise scale.Champions safe and scalable environment provisioning while protecting accessibility to data assets residing within FedEx network.Sets the standards for sizing, building, deploying, managing, and monitoring fault-tolerant, 24/7 application infrastructure.Manages the infrastructure as code using scripts, templates, blueprints, workflows, CI/CD orchestration tools, and other automation technologies in the spirit of speed and consistency.

Continuously collaborates with a variety of managers, architects, vendors, stake holders, business owners, and peer engineering teams ensuring deployed services meet business needs with the highest levels of scalability, reliability, and performance while balancing security, maintainability, reliability, and operational excellence.Advises junior engineers, managers, and those in less senior positions.Provides mentorship and guidance to junior cloud engineers to support the continued training and up-skilling of the Cloud engineering team.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Strong leader / mentorship
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• GCP or other major cloud platform experience
• Confluent Cloud administration
• Demonstrable understanding of the 7 layers of the OSI Network Mode
• Conversant in system administration skills and tasks that a well-rounded technologist may need to perform
• Experience with one or more programming languages
• Automation and scripting in Powershell and Bash
• DevOps and CICD pipelines – github actions
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present and communicate effectively to executive audiences
• Kubernetes experience either with GKE/AKS or managing your own Kubernetes cluster
• Must have: Terraform, Yaml configurations, Shell scripting, Kubernetes
• Experience in alert management and root cause analysis
• Experience with monitoring stack (Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience in completing difficult projects, e.g. programming project, system admin, large deployment or migration projects
• Experience with Java or Python
• Experience with data analytical infrastructure - Dataflow, GCS, BigQueryExperience with AI – GCP AI Foundation, Vertex AI

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or related quantitative discipline. Directly related PhD preferred.

Minimum Experience

Seven plus (7+) years’ work experience in cloud engineering or related field. Strong experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Strong experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
