Job description
Meet the Team

The Cisco Common Platform Services (CCPS) organization is transforming how Cisco delivers software-as-a-service by providing a modern, consistent, and secure platform for all! With demonstrated ability, our global team brings innovative methodologies to building and managing hybrid cloud environments. We focus on platform management services, continuously evaluating infrastructure and operations to ensure efficiency and precision. Our expertise in IaaS and PaaS, combined with repeatable and portable delivery models, enables the rapid and secure deployment of applications.

Within CCPS, the Cloud Software & Solutions (CSS) group designs and develops OpenStack and Kubernetes platform solutions with an emphasis on quality, stability, simplification, user experience, scalability, performance, and portability. We are looking for a Cloud Engineer to join our team and build scalable cloud-native applications and services.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cloud Engineer in the CSS group, you will play a central role in designing and developing cloud-native applications with Go and Python. Your work will include building microservices, distributed systems, APIs, serverless functions, and event-driven solutions, as well as creating automation tools and internal developer platforms. You’ll be responsible for ensuring robust monitoring, logging, and observability, and for writing thorough tests and documentation.

You will design and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation, deploying applications across platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP. Maintaining CI/CD pipelines, optimizing performance and cost, upholding security and compliance standards, and addressing production issues are all part of your day-to-day work.

Collaboration is essential in this role. You’ll work closely with product teams to translate requirements into technical solutions, participate in architecture reviews and key technical decisions, and coordinate with DevOps and SRE teams to drive ongoing platform improvements.

Required Qualifications
  • BS or MS or equivalent experience in Computer Science (or related field) with 2+ years of software development experience
  • Proficient in Go and Python; experienced with REST/gRPC/GraphQL APIs
  • Skilled with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiar with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation), databases (SQL/NoSQL), and version control (Git)
  • Knowledgeable in networking, security, distributed systems, CI/CD practices, and monitoring/observability tools
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with testing frameworks, test-driven development, and using AI tools
  • Skilled with message queues, event streaming (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS/SNS), and serverless computing (e.g., AWS Lambda)
  • Knowledge of service mesh (Istio, Linkerd) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Understanding of security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance frameworks (SOC2, PCI-DSS, GDPR)
  • Experience with performance optimization and scalability challenges
