Cloud Engineer
The Cloud Engineer will have an active role in designing, planning and implementing secure cloud migrations, and adopting new cloud technologies to support business and project needs. This role will provide technical support on major tasks or technology assignments, support multi‑cloud environments, infrastructure migration methodologies, and techniques—including application migrations to cloud platforms—to implement scalable, reliable, multi‑tenant, multi‑Cloud Service Provider solutions such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, and Microsoft Azure (list not exhaustive).
Duties / Responsibilities
- Building cloud instances based on system and mission requirements
- Develop IaC methodology to define and implement on‑prem and cloud infrastructure components such as physical hardware, virtual machines, storage, core roles, and network configurations
- Utilize IaC tools like Terraform, Ansible, and AWX to provision and manage infrastructure across multiple platforms (on‑prem or cloud)
- Implement standardized configurations, best practices, and automation for infrastructure deployments, ensuring scalability, security, and consistency
- Integrate IaC code with CI/CD pipelines to automate infrastructure provisioning, updates, and maintenance during development and deployment cycles
- Ensure seamless and consistent infrastructure management across various environments (dev, test, production)
- Collaborate with the development team to facilitate smooth infrastructure provisioning as part of the development lifecycle
- Research, design, install, configure, and deploy platform products in high‑availability infrastructure to support all products and applications
- Deliver cloud solutions—both IaaS and PaaS—that enable the business to run sensitive workloads within a cloud environment securely
- Create and install cloud computing solutions in accordance with user requirements
- Automate cloud system operations to enhance efficiency and speed
- Develop, establish, and implement modular cloud‑based applications
- Resolve technical issues and document solutions
- Create strategies for enhancing the performance of existing cloud technology
- Maintain applications and infrastructure for cloud‑based platforms
- Train IT team members on different cloud computing technologies
- Write instructions for cloud computing operations and maintain documentation
Certification Requirements
- DoDD 8570.01‑M IAT
- DoDM 8140.03 CYBERSPACE WORKFORCE QUALIFICATION
- Microsoft Certified Expert in the Azure product line OR
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate or above OR
- Google Associate Cloud Engineer or above OR
- Microsoft Certified Azure DevOps Engineer Expert OR
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Experience Requirements
- 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience on leading cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) developing/implementing service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
- Designing and implementing IaC solutions using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
- Familiarity with container platforms such as Docker and OpenShift, and other emerging technologies
- Experience with infrastructure and platform automation technologies and tools (Puppet, Ansible, AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Experience building and operating financial control and analysis systems (cloud cost analysis, showback, chargeback)
- Knowledge of cloud resource tagging and cost optimization suggestions
- Mentoring and coaching colleagues and seeking opportunities for continuous improvement
- Comfortable working in cross‑functional and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to create and maintain a project plan in a multi‑cloud environment
- Good understanding of software development and integration at the SaaS and IaaS levels
- Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles
- Experience integrating data from multiple sources
- Guide technical staff in resolving technical architecture and design issues
- Demonstrated thought leadership in platform services and cloud computing, acting as a trusted advisor to decision‑makers
- Well‑balanced approach to addressing complex infrastructure concepts
- Maintain awareness of and evaluate emerging cloud capabilities, technologies, and tools; develop technical domain roadmaps for public cloud technologies
Clearance Requirements
- US Citizenship
- Must hold an active SECRET clearance

- Networking experience
- Experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker)
- Experience with Kubernetes or a Kubernetes platform
- VMware virtualization experience
- Understanding of DISA STIGs or CIS frameworks
