The Fuel Field Services team includes Design and Project Engineers supporting fuel-related products and services at the Mount Athos Road (MAR) facility as part of Fuel America. The individual in this position will be responsible for the specification, design, testing, and qualification of fuel inspection-related equipment, tools, and products. The position includes troubleshooting, diagnosis, modification, and support of maintenance programs. The individual will also assume responsibility for a tooling group to support assigned field product functions (such as post-irradiation inspection services, fuel reconstitution and repair, sipping, etc.) as well as serve as the machine shop interface for tool/component production. The individual will also contribute to a variety of emergent projects and support onsite fuel inspection and repair deployments as required.

The individual will be responsible for all aspects of tooling/equipment design, including conceptual development, R&D of First-Of-A-Kind principles, formal design using CAD software packages, detailed drawings, tolerance studies, design reviews, qualification, and implementation/startup of tooling/equipment. In addition, the individual will also be responsible for working with Fuel Field Service Operations throughout the process, including hands‑on tooling assembly, training, and training manual development.

The individual will report directly to the Supervisor, Field Service Engineering. Overtime will be required during peak workloads, with anticipated sporadic travel of 10–25% of the time to conduct physical work in commercial nuclear facilities and power plants worldwide.

The mission of Fuel Field Services is to perform field services (inspection, reconstitution, and repair) of fuel assemblies and core components (control rod assemblies, fuel channels) at reactor sites under contract for fuel and fuel‑related product supply, executing research and development programs, gathering experience feedback on product performance, and providing warranty service. Additional services and products are provided to non‑fuel supply customers and nuclear institutions for joint industry development programs as part of commercial sales.

Experience must include a strong background in CAD using a solid modeling platform. The department uses Pro‑E/Creo but will train an individual that is already experienced in other solid modeling packages such as SolidWorks or Mechanical Desktop. Experience in a production environment related to specialized tooling design is desired. Must also have strong interpersonal skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
