Job summary

Platinum Technologies in the Northern Virginia area is seeking a Cloud Engineer for a Fort Meade, MD position. The role requires an active Secret clearance and DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification, with hands-on cloud design across AWS and Azure.

You will implement Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and address security posture aligned with federal frameworks, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree with 12+ years of relevant experience; higher may substitute.
  • Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II cert (e.g., Security+, CISSP, or equivalent).
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Industry cloud certs such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Azure Administrator Associate.
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise cloud solutions in AWS and/or Azure.
  • Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or CloudFormation.
  • Automation experience using Ansible, PowerShell, Azure Functions, or similar.
  • IAM/ICAM technologies including Azure AD, Okta, CyberArk, or similar.
  • Strong networking, virtualization, storage, and cloud security principles.
  • Familiarity with NIST, FedRAMP, and FISMA frameworks.
  • Experience supporting production enterprise environments in operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain secure cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure environments.
  • Deploy and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using automation and orchestration tools.
  • Support cloud modernization initiatives, including migration of on-premises services to cloud environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex Tier 3 cloud infrastructure, networking, identity, and application issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, operations, and architecture teams to align with enterprise standards.
  • Contribute to cloud architecture design for scalable, resilient, and highly available environments.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
  • Enforce cloud security practices and DoD/Federal frameworks compliance.
  • Monitor cloud environments for performance and cost optimization.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and engineering standards.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and operations staff.

This role is located at Fort Meade, M.D. Candidate must hold an active Secret clearance.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and engineering standards
  • Support continuous service improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and user experience across the DES environment
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and operations personnel as needed
Required Skills.
  • Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 10+ years of experience; additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, or equivalent)
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Industry cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise cloud solutions in AWS and/or Azure environments
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM/Bicep, or CloudFormation
  • Experience implementing automation solutions using tools such as Ansible, PowerShell, Azure Functions, or similar technologies
  • Understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM/ICAM) technologies including Azure AD, Okta, CyberArk, or similar platforms
  • Strong understanding of networking, virtualization, storage, and cloud security principles
  • Familiarity with Federal Government cybersecurity and compliance frameworks including NIST, FedRAMP, and FISMA
  • Experience supporting production enterprise environments in an operations and maintenance capacity
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in distributed technical teams
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira and Confluence
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise migrations or hybrid cloud environments
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes or OpenShift
