Job Description
Our client is seeking a skilled Cloud Database Administrator to support the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of cloud-based database systems across complex federal environments. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in cloud platforms, database technologies, automation, and security to ensure resilient, high-performance, highly available data services that meet mission‑critical requirements.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database servers and related tools in IL5 and IL6 environments, including applying hot fixes, service packs, and version upgrades.
- Monitor database performance and proactively identify opportunities for tuning and optimization.
- Design, implement, and manage database backup, recovery, retention, and archiving strategies.
- Manage database security, including roles, permissions, encryption (including row‑level), auditing, and IAM integrations.
- Administer Oracle or SQL Server environments, including multiple databases supporting individual applications.
- Configure, validate, and manage database functionality once systems are migrated into IL5/6 environments.
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as indexing, statistics updates, storage optimization, and cleanup.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues including performance bottlenecks, slow queries, connectivity issues, replication failures, and data corruption.
- Support data migrations, database design, schema optimization, and modernization initiatives.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness using technologies such as clustering, replication, and failover systems.
- Document database configurations, operational procedures, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
- Design, deploy, and administer database solutions across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) using services such as RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, and Cloud SQL.
- Perform configuration, performance tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, patching, and replication on cloud‑hosted databases.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) templates (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM) to automate database provisioning and configuration.
- Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, storage usage, and execution plans for mission‑critical applications.
- Implement, monitor, and maintain cloud‑based high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Ensure adherence to federal security standards (FedRAMP, NIST 800‑53) for database security, encryption, IAM, auditing, and compliance.
- Collaborate with application teams, cloud engineers, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to design scalable, secure, and resilient data architectures.
- Troubleshoot production and non‑production database incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Support migration of legacy on‑prem database systems to cloud‑native or cloud‑hosted architectures.
- Maintain documentation for cloud database configurations, operational processes, and data workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years Experience administering cloud databases in AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI.
- Hands‑on experience administering relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle 19, SQL Server, MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc.).
- Proficiency in scripting/automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and DevOps concepts.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, ELK, Grafana, etc.).
- Strong understanding of database security, encryption, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to support critical systems in a fast‑paced, mission‑oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cloud certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Database Specialty, Azure Database Administrator, etc.).
- Experience with containerized data services (Kubernetes, Amazon RDS Proxy, etc.).
- Experience with data migration tools and methodologies.
- Experience supporting federal government programs or environments.
- Knowledge of zero‑downtime deployment patterns and cloud‑native architectures.
- Experience developing and administration in an Azure Government and Azure Secret Environment.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (PowerShell and Azure CLI).

Clearance Requirements
- Must possess active Secret or higher clearance and maintain as a condition of employment.

Location Details
Hybrid in Washington, D.C.; on‑site work at least three days a week at customer location will be required.
