Job summary

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, CA seeks a Cloud Systems Software Engineer I to develop data systems for flight missions. You will help design data pipelines, process large datasets, and deploy scalable solutions in the cloud using Elasticsearch, Terraform, AWS tools, and Python Flask-based services.

Join a team delivering end-to-end data products for NASA missions, reporting to the Interactive Tools and Pipeline Automation Group supervisor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Mathematics with 1 year of related work experience, or Master’s in a similar discipline with 0 years of related work experience.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle, requirements, verification & validation, configuration management and issue tracking.
• Experience with agile development framework and sprint lifecycles, including CI/CD and tool stacks (GitHub/GitLab, JIRA).
• Experience in scientific application programming using Python.
• Experience with Jenkins and Docker.
• Experience with Linux, Docker containers, messaging protocols, REST interfaces.
• Experience with IAC concepts with Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
• Experience with AWS cloud processing, services and data storage; familiarity with EC2, S3, Lambda, SQS/SNS, Autoscaling, networking basics.
• Willingness to utilize GenAI coding tools and agents to assist development.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with leads to design and develop new capabilities and document systems.
• Develop data processing workflows and software related to data products.
• Design, develop, integrate, and test software in compliance with interfaces and requirements documents.
• Build cloud-based software using open-source tools and AWS services.
• Develop new tools and services and contribute to their design based on user cases.
