Job Description:

The CMM Data Architect will work as part of an agile development team to build and support the modernization of enterprise-class software applications. The candidate should be capable of architecting and developing cloud database infrastructure and supporting migration of legacy systems to the cloud. Responsibilities include translating requirements into data storage solutions, creating PoCs, architecting cloud-based database solutions, and developing migration plans from legacy databases to multi-cloud/hybrid platforms.

The Data Architect will lead the design and implementation of secure, scalable database architectures across cloud-native, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments, supporting CMSO modernization initiatives. This role involves guiding legacy workload migrations, developing Architecture Design Documents, and working with enterprise teams to establish database standards, assess ROI, and recommend cost-effective solutions.

The architect also supports configuring cloud databases, diagnostics, performance optimization, security settings, monitoring, replication strategies, and resource planning. Additional tasks include provisioning relational databases, managing server operations, geo-replication, and ensuring robust data management to support CMSO’s resilient, secure, and future-proof database infrastructure.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Research, design, and manage cloud database infrastructure supporting enterprise modernization.
  2. Develop standards, procedures, and best practices for performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  3. Design data frameworks aligned with architecture and organizational strategy.
  4. Define end-to-end data roadmaps, including operational and analytic databases, reporting, and migration plans.
  5. Develop detailed migration plans from legacy systems (e.g., Informix) to cloud solutions.
  6. Participate in agile teams through all project phases: requirements, architecture, design, development, testing, deployment.
  7. Establish data architecture standards, including metadata modeling and security considerations.
  8. Implement data design patterns in distributed systems.
  9. Maintain system design and architecture documentation.
  10. Review requirements and provide technical feedback.
  11. Propose solutions for future organizational needs.
  12. Collaborate with government architects and technical leads to ensure industry best practices and standards compliance.
  13. Perform data modeling, analysis, report creation, and database management tasks using SQL and other tools.

Requirements:

  • Experience designing high-availability, mission-critical systems with zero downtime.
  • Experience with cloud platforms: Azure, AWS, GCP, OCI.
  • Data modeling experience for large multi-tenant databases.
  • Knowledge of relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases.
  • Familiarity with Data Bricks, Snowflake, and other cloud offerings.
  • Hands-on experience with database scaling, migration, performance tuning, security, and standards management.
  • Experience with database environment installation, configuration, and support across various database systems (IBM Informix, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle).
  • Non-relational database experience and cloud solutions like DynamoDB, CosmosDB, GraphDB, DocumentDB.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in IT and cloud infrastructure development.
  • Experience in software architecture, security, and modernization initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • Leadership experience in cloud migration and modernization projects.
  • Preferred certifications in cloud platforms.
