Cloud Broadcast Engineer

Location: Remote in US

About the Role

Monks is looking for a Cloud Broadcast Engineer to devise, test, and implement cloud broadcast solutions for live streaming and virtual events.

An engineer with a cross-functional background in broadcast engineering and cloud engineering will bring their expertise to Monks’ team and our cloud-based live streaming solutions. This team member will help modernize, rethink, innovate, and develop ways to elevate the quality and reliability of cloud broadcast productions. The Cloud Broadcast Engineer will work closely with the Innovation team on projects involving video, audio, networking, production, and post-production.

Responsibilities
  1. Devise, innovate, research, and test solutions based on project needs.
  2. Engage in discussions and build the entire signal flow.
  3. Deploy AWS infrastructure to support the signal flow.
  4. Contribute to documentation on best practices for each project.
  5. Learn the operation of our cloud-based virtual production environment.
  6. Stay updated with the latest broadcast software and cloud practices.
  7. Maintain a consistent approach to quality and correctness in production.
  8. Communicate effectively, asking clarifying questions when needed.
  9. Be proactive in R&D and exploring new technologies.
  10. Demonstrate intellectual curiosity.
  11. Be comfortable with client-facing interactions.
About You
The essentials:
  • Hands-on experience in broadcast engineering and cloud infrastructure (non-software development).
  • Solid understanding of physical broadcast infrastructure and live production environments.
  • Expertise in AWS, especially EC2.
  • Experience deploying VPCs, EC2 instances, security groups, networking, and monitoring.
  • Experience with tools and vendors like Grass Valley, Vizrt, Calrec, SSL, OBS, and vMix.
  • Deep familiarity with industry protocols such as SRT, NDI, SDI, RTMP, and WebRTC.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous and dynamic environments.
  • Strong analytical thinking with a proactive, R&D-driven mindset.
  • Eligible to pass FBI background checks for major events and sensitive projects.
Not a must, but a plus:
  • AWS Elemental experience.
  • Experience with other cloud providers like GCP or Oracle/OCI.
  • Experience in asset management or media pipeline optimization.
  • Background at companies like Vizrt, Grass Valley, Calrec, SSL, Netflix, BBC, CNN, major sports networks, or cloud media teams.
  • AWS certification.
  • Experience in defining industry standards.

What We Offer

Our compensation range is a good faith estimate and may vary based on factors like experience and location. The salary offered will not be based on gender or protected characteristics.

$120,000 — $160,000 USD
