Job summary

Everforth ECS is seeking a Cloud Automation Engineer to deploy and support Azure cloud environments and related AWS workloads for DoD initiatives in the Fairfax, VA area. The role emphasizes hands-on automation, infrastructure as code, and improving deployment pipelines to enable teams to operate more efficiently.

You'll collaborate with engineering and security teams to deliver repeatable patterns, govern IAM and networking, and assist data platforms while supporting AI/ML workloads as needed.

Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret clearance required.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related work experience.
• Ability to obtain DoD 8140 IAT Level II Security+ within 60 days of hire.
• Hybrid work in Fairfax, VA (up to 3 days in office).
• Willingness to travel <20% to CONUS / OCONUS sites.
• 5+ years in cloud engineering, DevOps, or similar roles.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure in production.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure in AWS and Azure.
• Write and manage Terraform IaC with reusable modules.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, GitLab, or Jenkins.
• Implement and support Git-based deployment workflows.
• Automate provisioning of networking, compute, and storage.
• Support identity and access management, including SSO, roles, and permissions.
• Troubleshoot issues across environments and assist deployments.
• Refactor and improve existing infrastructure and pipelines.
• Document solutions and patterns for reuse across teams.
• Support infrastructure for data platforms and analytics integration.
• Assist environments that support AI/ML workloads when needed.

Job description

Everforth ECS is seeking a Cloud Automation Engineer to deploy and support Azure cloud environments for multiple coalition Mission Partner Network enclaves in support of the DoW community. This role is hands‑on and focused on automation, including writing infrastructure code, improving deployment pipelines, and helping teams operate more efficiently in the cloud.

The position works closely with engineering and security teams to deliver consistent, repeatable infrastructure and deployment patterns. The focus is on doing the work, solving problems, and improving how cloud environments are built and maintained over time.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure in AWS and Azure
• Write and manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, including reusable modules
• Develop and improve CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab, or Jenkins
• Implement and support Git-based deployment workflows
• Automate provisioning of cloud resources, including networking, compute, and storage
• Support identity and access management, including SSO, roles, and permissions
• Troubleshoot issues across environments and assist teams during deployments
• Refactor and improve existing infrastructure and pipelines where needed
• Document solutions and patterns for reuse across teams
• Support infrastructure for data platforms, including storage, data pipelines, and integration with analytics tools
• Help enable environments that support AI or machine learning workloads where needed

Required Skills

• Active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of related work experience.
• Ability to obtain a DoD 8140 IAT Level II Security+ (or higher) within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to work in a hybrid capacity in Fairfax, VA (up to 3 days in office).
• Ability to travel <20% throughout the lifespan of the Program to CONUS / OCONUS customer sites and government installations.
• 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or similar roles.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS and or Azure in production environments.
• Strong experience writing and maintaining Terraform code.
• Experience with the following:
  • Building and supporting CI/CD pipelines.
  • Supporting operational aspects such as monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with Git and version‑controlled workflows.
• Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts such as VPCs, subnets, routing, and security groups.
• Understanding of security fundamentals, including identity and access management, SSO, RBAC, and encryption.
• Scripting experience using Python, Bash, or similar.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities, with a proven ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and identify the most appropriate solution.
• Highly developed interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, with the ability to effectively and professionally interact with a diverse set of stakeholders (from peers to end-users to executive management).

Desired Skills

• Experience with GitOps style workflows.
• Exposure to:
  • Kubernetes or container‑based platforms.
  • AI or machine learning environments or supporting infrastructure.
• Familiarity with cloud security tools and compliance frameworks.
• Experience:
  • Supporting data platforms or data engineering workflows.
  • Working in government or regulated environments.
• AWS or Azure certifications.
