Job summary

GAMA-1 is seeking a Cloud Architect IV to lead enterprise architecture and systems engineering for a Federal modernization program. The role spans cloud, on‑prem, security, and governance, with both remote and on‑site work.

You will drive architectural strategy, guide modernization efforts, and ensure alignment with NIST and FISMA standards. Required are 8–10+ years in related roles and a BS degree in a technical field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8–10+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Architecture, or related leadership roles.
  • Experience supporting Federal Government IT modernization programs.
  • Demonstrated experience designing enterprise cloud and hybrid cloud architectures using AWS and Azure.
  • Experience developing As‑Is/To‑Be architectures, governance artifacts, roadmaps and technical assessments.
  • Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks, systems modeling and API/data integration.
  • Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD, IaC, cloud automation, and governance.
  • Experience supporting Federal cybersecurity requirements including NIST RMF, FISMA, ATO, and security engineering.

  • Assess AWS, Azure, on‑premises and hybrid environments; evaluate IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and cloud services.
  • Support requirements analysis, systems modeling, API integration, and lifecycle engineering per standards.
  • Identify gaps, risks, modernization opportunities, and provide mitigation recommendations.
  • Produce architecture artifacts, documentation, roadmaps, and status reports for stakeholders.
  • Serve as senior technical advisor to customer leadership and shape long‑term technology direction.

About the Opportunity

The Cloud Architect IV – Lead Enterprise Architecture & Systems Engineering is responsible for serving as the senior technical lead supporting a mission-critical Federal customer modernization program in a remote and on-site work environment. This role establishes the architectural foundation for enterprise modernization by assessing current environments, developing future-state enterprise and cloud architectures, and providing technical leadership across systems engineering, enterprise architecture, cloud architecture, cybersecurity, and architecture governance.

Success in this role requires balancing strategic vision with hands‑on technical expertise, guiding modernization initiatives, reducing technical risk, and ensuring solutions align with Federal engineering, security, and operational standards.

What You Will Do in This Role

The Cloud Architect IV – Lead Enterprise Architecture & Systems Engineering will lead enterprise architecture, systems engineering, and cloud modernization efforts by designing future-state solutions, guiding technical governance, ensuring cybersecurity compliance, and providing strategic architectural leadership for complex Federal IT initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of As-Is and To-Be enterprise architectures by documenting system dependencies, application interfaces, data flows, service workflows, network topology, asset inventories, and enterprise architecture baselines.
  • Design, assess, and govern AWS, Azure, on-premises, and hybrid cloud environments while evaluating Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Container-as-a-Service (CaaS/CDaaS), and emerging cloud technologies to develop modernization, migration, hosting, scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency strategies.
  • Apply systems engineering principles throughout the project lifecycle by supporting requirements analysis, systems modeling, enterprise integration, API integration, verification and validation, IV&V planning, engineering test strategies, system integration, and lifecycle engineering in accordance with IEEE/ISO/IEC 15288.
  • Conduct enterprise architecture assessments and technical reviews to identify integration gaps, architectural inconsistencies, technical risks, modernization opportunities, and engineering recommendations while maintaining technical risk registers and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise architecture artifacts and technical documentation, including architecture models, system views, network topology diagrams, enterprise data flow diagrams, architecture assessment reports, technology assessment white papers, modernization roadmaps, engineering policies, design guidelines, security architecture assessments, and monthly technical status reports.
  • Integrate cybersecurity throughout the systems engineering lifecycle by supporting Authority to Operate (ATO) activities, performing security architecture assessments and vulnerability analyses, and ensuring compliance with NIST RMF, FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-64, NIST SP 800-160, FIPS 200, and other applicable Federal security standards.
  • Support modern software delivery through DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), architecture-as-code, and cloud automation practices that improve consistency, repeatability, and secure deployment.
  • Develop architecture standards, engineering guidance, governance documentation, architecture decision records, and design recommendations while maintaining traceability from requirements through implementation and coordinating technical reviews with customer stakeholders.
  • Serve as the senior technical advisor to customer leadership by presenting architectural recommendations, modernization strategies, technical tradeoffs, and engineering guidance while collaborating with engineers, project teams, and program leadership to shape long‑term technology direction.

Preferred qualifications
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent cloud architecture certification.
  • Experience supporting large-scale Federal IT modernization initiatives.
  • Experience with Agile, SAFe, Scrum, and traditional systems engineering methodologies.
  • Experience with enterprise architecture repositories, governance frameworks, and cloud automation technologies.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • This work is normally completed in a remote environment.
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's and client facilities.
Travel Required
  • Travel may be required on an as-needed basis.

Summary

Compensation Range: $175,000 - $225,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
