Job summary

Huntsville Hospital is seeking a GYN Oncology Nurse Navigator to support patients with cancer, coordinate care and help patients, families and caregivers navigate the healthcare system. The role emphasizes education, advocacy, and timely access to quality care throughout the cancer continuum.

The navigator will require a nursing degree and Alabama license, BLS within 3 months, and oncology-related certifications within specified timelines, with at least three years of nursing experience;

Qualifications

• BSN strongly preferred.
• Current Alabama or Multistate Nursing license.
• BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
• OCN or ONN certification within 2 years of hire.
• ONS Fundamental Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy card within 6 months of hire.
• Three years nursing experience.
• Oncology or GYN nursing experience preferred.
• Experience in outpatient facility preferred.

Education

Job description

Overview

The GYN Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) competencies include the fundamental knowledge, skills and expertise required to proficiently (a) participate in the care of patients with a past, current, or potential diagnosis of cancer, (b) assist patients with cancer, families and caregivers to overcome healthcare system barriers, and (c) provide education and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer continuum. The ONN is cognizant of the psychosocial and financial impact that disease and hospitalization has on the patient and family and acts as an advocate to identify and obtain needed resources and support. Oncology Nurse Navigators have expertise in nursing practice and ensure continuing expertise through clinical experience and continuing education. The complexity of the role requires a high level of autonony.

Qualifications

Education required: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing

Education preferred: BSN strongly preferred

License, Certification and/or Registration: Current Alabama or Multistate Nursing license required. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within 3 months of hire. OCN or ONN certification required within 2 years of hire. ONS Fundamental Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy card required within 6 months of hire.

Experience: Three (3) years nursing experience required. One (1) year of Oncology or GYN nursing experience preferred. Experience in an outpatient facility preferred.
