Job description

The Clinician Informatician (CI), at the direction of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), is a practicing medical provider that serves as the lead clinician for the implementation and optimization of clinical IT applications at NEVHC, such as modules of the electronic health record and electronic registries, and acts as the liaison between clinical staff and the IT department in this regard. This individual will work with IT staff, clinical support staff and physicians to optimize the usage of clinical IT systems through education and training, ongoing technical support, and monitoring of performance. The CI also has primary responsibility for evaluating the needs and requirements for clinical IT applications in ambulatory healthcare settings and participates in the selection of new IT applications that impact clinical care. It is expected that this position will require at least a 20% FTE effort, plus at least 50% FTE effort actively seeing patients at NEVHC.

Reports to: Chief Medical Officer

To perform effectively in this position, the employee is expected to have:

  1. Licensed Physician (MD/DO), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) with active CA licensure. Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics preferred. Formal training or certification in Clinical Informatics, Health Informatics, or related discipline is desirable.
  2. Experience implementing, optimizing, and supporting Electronic Health Records (EHRs), clinical decision support systems, and other healthcare technologies. Training or certification in Clinical Informatics, Medical Informatics, Health Informatics, or related field is preferred.
  3. Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical work experience in the ambulatory care, community health center, federally qualified health center (FQHC), or related healthcare setting.
  4. Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR policy.
  5. Competency in mapping real-life clinical practices to informatics applications.
  6. Change management skills – adept at persuading and training clinical staff to adopt new workflows and tools.
  7. Strong knowledge of system analysis, workflow planning, gathering business requirements and transforming them into functional specifications.
  8. Broad knowledge of ambulatory care operations and associated technologies.
  9. Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guides.
  10. Excellent ability to translate technical terminology for consumption by non-technical audiences.
  11. Knowledge of adult learning and training methods.
  12. Good familiarity with project management, quality improvement, and information systems design.
  13. Able to collaborate and negotiate with vendors and service providers.
  14. Knowledgeable of current IT security standards, HIPAA and applicable privacy laws, Joint Commission accreditation standards, etc.
  15. Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  16. Self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  17. Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  18. Customer-service orientation.
  19. Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
