Job description

Community Mental Health Affiliates, Inc. (CMHA) is a private non-profit treatment provider headquartered in New Britain, with seven locations throughout the city and in Waterbury. We partner with clients and the community to promote recovery from mental illness and substance use, treating more than 7,500 adults and children each year. CMHA is looking to hire a full-time, 40 hours per week Clinician I for our school-based program. This position will be located at 255 Bank Street Waterbury, CT. (Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 4:00 pm).

Compensation: $57k minimum to $76k maximum per year.

Starting salary will be determined based on relevant years of experience.

Position Summary: The school-based Clinician serves as an active part of a multidisciplinary team that provides school-based outpatient services in a structured therapeutic environment for children and adolescents who present with a wide range of behavioral health needs. Engages parents, family members, and other pertinent adults to support the child through the therapeutic process. Treatment is aimed at assisting individuals and families by helping them develop the skills necessary to improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assesses, diagnoses and recommends appropriate treatment for child and family and assists with appropriate referrals and linkage to other services.
  2. Completes assessment tool, integrates pertinent information to establish diagnosis, and analyzes data to create clinical formulation within designated timeframe.
  3. Develops achievable goals with client and family; with measurable and behavioral objectives within designated timeframes. Monitors treatment progress and provides updates within identified timeframes and as necessary.
  4. Performs individual, family and group treatment utilizing evidence-based practices to facilitate positive strength‐based change.
  5. Collaborates and coordinates with external agencies such as schools, pediatricians, DCF, juvenile court and other social service agencies.
  6. Responds to crisis situations and triages appropriately, communicating clearly with professionals –internal and external – to meet presenting client needs.
  7. Provides referrals and linkage to community and internal resources as necessary to address client need.
  8. Secures reimbursement by obtaining authorizations, providing accurate documentation and submitting progress notes in a timely manner.
  9. Completes documentation within designated timeframes as established by CMHA and external regulatory agencies.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Must have a master’s degree in behavioral health (psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, and/or alcohol and drug counseling).
  2. Must be eligible for full licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPC).
  3. Certified in first aid and CPR.
  4. Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).
  5. Valid CT Driver's License.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Demonstrates beginner to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook.
  2. Experience in, or the ability and willingness to learn how to use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, which includes appointment scheduling, authorization tracking, assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  3. Strong desire to work with children, adolescents, families, and adults with serious behavioral health issues.
