Position Details

UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, is seeking a full-time Clinician for our 4D/5D Cardiology Unit. This role is a critical step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, providing avenues for professional advancement and ongoing development. What is 4D/5D?

Units 4D/5D are medical cardiology units with 18 telemetry beds in private rooms. We care for patients with various cardiac diagnoses, including heart failure, pulmonary arterial hypertension, peripheral vascular disease, cardiac rhythm disturbances, cardiac catheterization, post-pacemaker/ICD placement, and preparations for heart transplant and LVAD placement. We promote patient education, lifestyle changes, and home care, supported by a positive, high-performing team including physicians and APPs.

What is a Clinician?

The Clinician is a senior nursing role focusing on expert clinical practice, teaching, and evidence-based practice. Working closely with management, the Clinician fosters a culture of nursing and patient care excellence, assists with employee evaluations, hiring, and performance management, and ensures high-quality patient outcomes through advanced clinical skills.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains productive relationships through mentoring, modeling positive communication, and coaching colleagues on diversity and workplace issues. Demonstrates accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Uses performance improvement tools to enhance care quality and work environment, sharing learnings across units and systems.
  • Mentors and educates staff, participates as a preceptor, and promotes continuous learning and development within the healthcare team.
  • Aligns daily work with professional organization and system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. Builds compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues, and shares knowledge through presentations and publications.
  • Applies nursing knowledge within Relationship-Based Care, using the nursing process to address clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs. Demonstrates critical thinking and effective communication, ensuring comprehensive documentation and care coordination.
  • Leads clinical practice improvements, supports staff during change, practices participatory leadership, and assumes formal leadership roles such as quality improvement or onboarding. Participates in staff performance evaluations as needed.
