UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet-designated hospital, is seeking a full-time Clinician for our 10S Adult Acute Care Floor. This role provides avenues for professional advancement and ongoing development, representing a significant step in the UPMC nursing career ladder.

What is 10S?

10 South at UPMC Montefiore is a 30-bed acuity-adaptable medical unit specializing in stepdown and telemetry care. We handle a broad spectrum of general medical cases and also manage overflow from orthopedics, ENT, hepatology, urology, and abdominal transplant services. This collaborative, team-oriented unit provides care for a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity, making it an excellent environment for new graduates and nurses seeking to enhance their inpatient experience and clinical expertise. Our RNs work on a rotating schedule to ensure continuous 24/7 coverage.

What is a Clinician?

The Clinician is a senior nursing role focusing on expert clinical practice, teaching, and evidence-based practice. Working closely with management, the Clinician helps foster a culture of excellence in nursing and patient care. Under the direction of the Unit Director or Department Manager, they assist with employee evaluations, hiring, and performance management.

The Clinician is responsible for nursing care delivery on their shift, using advanced clinical knowledge to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. They provide service-based education, including staff orientation, training, and consultation on practice issues. The role involves coordinating clinical activities and applying principles of growth and development across the lifespan, demonstrating expertise in assessing patient data and addressing age-specific needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships internally and externally through mentoring and positive communication. Coach colleagues on cultural diversity and address workplace issues like horizontal violence and impairment. Demonstrate accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Utilize performance improvement tools to enhance care quality and work environment, sharing learnings across units and systems.
  • Mentor and educate staff, participate as a preceptor for nurses and students, and develop new preceptors. Share expertise within and beyond the clinical unit.
  • Align daily work with professional organization and system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. Build compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. Share knowledge through presentations, posters, and publications.
  • Apply nursing knowledge within Relationship Based Care, using the nursing process to meet patients' clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs. Demonstrate critical thinking and effective communication, ensuring comprehensive documentation and team communication.
  • Lead clinical practice improvements, support staff during change, and participate in shared leadership roles. Complete staff evaluations and support quality improvement initiatives.
