Program Overview: Part of the Transitional and Supportive Housing division and inaugurated in 2007, 290 East 3rd Street Supportive Housing Residence is a permanent supportive housing program that provides on‑site social services for 52 tenants. At the residence, the wellness and safety of the individual is deeply connected to the wellness and safety of our community.

Job Summary: Henry Street Settlement is seeking a highly motivated and independently qualified New York State licensed clinician (LCSW or LMHC) as a 1099 independent contractor to provide ongoing counseling services within a supportive housing program located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The program serves high‑risk residents with complex psychosocial needs. We are looking for a proactive, dynamic clinician who is comfortable working onsite in a residential setting and is committed to supporting residents in maintaining stability, enhancing quality of life, and accessing essential mental health services and community resources. The ideal candidate will hold a CASAC or CASAC‑T credential or have at least three years of experience in a substance use treatment setting, with a strong foundation in evidence‑based behavioral health practices such as CBT, DBT, Harm Reduction, and Motivational Interviewing. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for mental wellness, must be a collaborative professional, working closely with the onsite social services team, medical providers, and external partners to deliver integrated, trauma‑informed, and client‑centered care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive, culturally appropriate, and individualized clinical assessments including biopsychosocial evaluations, risk assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes, and ensure all required documentation is accurate and up to date.
• Provide timely crisis intervention and follow‑up, monitor residents’ adherence to mental health treatment, and ensure continuity of care by coordinating psychiatric evaluations or hospital referrals when appropriate.
• Collaborate with onsite program staff using an interdisciplinary approach by providing clinical consultation and support to case management team members.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative service models and program improvements.
• Build and maintain relationships with community providers and organizations to facilitate referrals, coordinate care, and connect residents with needed resources.
• Provide individual and group therapy, counseling, educational workshops and implement evidence‑based therapeutic interventions (e.g., Harm Reduction, CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing) to support residents in addressing mental health challenges, substance use, and in developing coping strategies that promote housing retention and overall well‑being.
• Provide in‑services and training to staff as appropriate to meet program and agency needs.
• Participate in program activities, weekly supervision, case conferences, staff meetings, and training as assigned.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and the program’s regulatory requirements.
• Monitor resident progress, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and adjust care plans as needed.
• Participate in training opportunities offered by Henry Street to enhance professional development and knowledge.
• Perform other duties as required by program needs.

Essential Job Functions:

• Must be able to ascend/descend 6 flights of stairs if necessary
• Occasionally required to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds.

Requirements

• Must hold an active and unrestricted independent clinical license (LCSW or LMHC) in the state of New York.
• Minimum of three years of experience working in a mental health, transitional, or supportive housing setting with individuals affected by trauma, chronic homelessness, substance use, mental illness, or domestic violence.
• CASAC or CASAC‑T credential, or at least three years of experience in a substance use treatment setting (preferred)
• Ability to work independently and manage their own caseload with the framework of the program’s policies and procedures
• Demonstrated excellence in problem‑solving and advanced crisis intervention, with strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal, and team‑building skills
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while exercising sound judgment, including effectively maintaining a caseload of at least 5 medical and psychiatrically high‑risk individuals.
• Computer skills required; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Adobe Professional and AWARD/Foothold (preferred)
• Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred)
• Candidate must have training in evidence‑based practices. The ideal applicant will possess proven experience applying evidence‑based treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing within a behavioral health environment and across diverse clinical diagnoses.
