How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:


Coordinates the monitoring transport patient flow throughout CMC. Transports patients independently monitoring the patient’s condition en route and during procedures. Monitor and interprets EKG rhythms. Utilizes transportation algorithm to determine appropriate follow-up for emergent and /or urgent patient needs.

  • Plans, directs and coordinates daily work flow in department. In addition, priorities and coordinates in-conjunction with the manager of radiology and multiple other departments to manage monitored patient flow.
  • Maintains awareness of overall monitoring department functions and status of all patients en route, during procedure, and in the Monitoring Transition area. Utilizes effective triage skills to determine patient prioritization in flow. Identifies and coordinates various disciplines needed to support patient in transport.
  • Able to work independently adapts to fluctuation in work demands by adjusting staff scheduling based on projected patient flow. Makes recommendations to management based on identified trends.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of Clinical information systems for data entry and retrieval. Inputs, maintains, and updates monitoring transport database.
  • Prepares routine and non routine special reports including gathering and summarizing data.
  • Coordinates orientation process for new staff. Completes appropriate documentation and feedback in conjunction with leadership to orientee.
  • Reviews patient’s charts for monitoring/procedure order verification. Request changes as needed in conjunction with RN. Documents database and patient information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates thorough and complete documentation skills. Appropriately reports changes in EKG rhythms and patient status to licensed staff and or physician.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills. Receives and screens in coming requests via phone and other wireless technology. Delegates triage call to appropriate skill set. Demonstrates excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and/or other health care professionals.
  • Collaborates with the RN, physician, and other clinical disciplines to meet the needs of the patient who requires transportation between area of care within the hospital. Continuously observes EKG monitors and patient status.
  • Maintain a safe comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards. Knowledgeable of patient’s rights and respects the rights of the patient to include accepting or refusing medical care.
  • Contributes to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities.
  • Actively participates in obtaining desired service line/ departmental operational excellence targets.
What We Require:


Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: One year of direct patient care and monitoring experience required.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: None required. EMT or NA preferred. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position. Basic monitoring course or challenge, NA course or challenge.


Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required. Advanced-monitoring education successfully completed as directed by the department.Basic Computer skills & knowledge of micro-soft office suites.
