The specific distribution of responsibilities will be established with the department chair based on departmental needs, appointment track, and the successful candidate’s qualifications and interests.

The successful candidate will participate in the department’s surgical biopsy and necropsy services. The biopsy service receives submissions from the ISU Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) and practicing veterinarians in the surrounding region. The necropsy service evaluates diverse species submitted through the LVMC small and large animal clinics. Responsibilities include diagnostic interpretation and communication of findings to clinicians and referring veterinarians, with an emphasis on accurate, timely, and clinically useful reports.

Teaching responsibilities include instruction of senior veterinary students and pathology residents through diagnostic service, including necropsy techniques, lesion recognition and interpretation, and clinicopathologic correlation. The successful candidate will also contribute to didactic and laboratory instruction in anatomic pathology and related disciplines for undergraduate, professional (DVM), and graduate students, as assigned, and participate in resident training and mentorship.

The successful candidate will advance anatomic pathology through scholarship appropriate to the appointment track and assigned effort. All faculty are expected to uphold high standards of integrity and ethics, contribute to a positive work environment, and approach clients and patients with professionalism and compassion.
