Job Summary:

The Providence Center DOC Clinical Therapist Per Diem will conduct psychosocial assessment with criminal offenders who are at the ACI or on home confinement. Position is Per Diem; set your own hours. Averages 8-16 hours per month. Inmate would be assessed at the ACI and the remainder of work would be done remotely.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments with criminal offenders who have upcoming parole hearings, as assigned by The RI Parole Board.
  • Perform a comprehensive psychosocial assessment of assigned clients.
  • Treat consumers with respect.
  • Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations.
  • Apply knowledge of Psychiatric Diagnosis (DSM V).
  • Apply knowledge of criminogenic risk factors.
  • Perform and record mental status examination.
  • Assess clinical emergencies, including suicide and danger to others, and report to appropriate RIDOC personnel.
  • Utilize parole and police reports, and other documents, provided by RI Parole Board.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.
  • Develop and present, verbally and in writing, a clear clinical formulation based on behavioral data and relevant theory while incorporating psychosocial and family issues.
  • Use knowledge to determine appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • Collaborate with other providers, agencies, and individuals in the consumers' network of care.
  • Maintain knowledge and familiarity of mental health and/or substance abuse and other related community agencies.
  • Communicate with RI Parole Board and RIDOC personnel.
  • Perform record keeping in accordance with Health Information Services and other Center requirements.
  • Complete biopsychosocial assessment which will be forwarded to Parole Board administrator via encrypted email.
  • Update Excel spreadsheet which includes information about work performed each month.
  • Attend mandatory in-service trainings and other trainings required for renewal of licensure.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with Center staff, consumers, RIDOC, and RI Parole Board.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.
  • Work in cooperation with supervisory staff and be open to constructive criticism.
  • Meetings with RI Parole Board upon request.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or related field and clinical experience. LICSW and/or LMHC is required.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with consumers, TPC/CNE, RIDOC, and RI Parole Board employees.
  • LICSW and/or LMHC is required.
  • Position may require driving. Must have valid driver's license, registration, current inspection and insured automobile.
