Job summary

Midwest Vision Partners, LLC is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to greet patients, perform diagnostic tests, and document information in the EMR system. The role includes assisting with minor eye procedures, educating patients, and maintaining patient confidentiality in a fast-paced clinic setting.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and the ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and enter information into the EMR system.
  • Explain what to expect during the visit and communicate delays or changes.
  • Document chief complaint, present illness, and past medical history.
  • Record all information in EMR according to standards and physician requirements.
  • Conduct tests of eye function: eye muscle function, pupil size and reactivity.
  • Apply eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Assist with minor procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, in exam or treatment rooms, including sterile prep.
  • Educate patients on medications and pre/post-operative instructions.
  • Scribe for physicians as needed.
  • Protect patient information and maintain confidentiality per HIPAA; code procedures accurately.
  • Use problem-solving to de-escalate dissatisfied patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, and ocular medications.
  • Stay current with technologies and medications; answer general patient questions.
  • Assist team members and complete special projects as requested.

Job description

The Ophthalmic Technician participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting. In this role, you will greet patients and explain what they can expect during their appointment. You will escort patients to the exam room and perform diagnostic ophthalmic tests and procedures prior to the physician seeing the patient, including visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry.

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for accurately documenting patient information and updating charts and medical records. This role also helps maintain a clean and organized clinic environment, including cleaning and sterilizing equipment and treatment areas.

Schedule
  • Monday: 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday: 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
  • Friday: 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
What you will be doing
  • Interacts with patients to accurately gather information and enter it into our electronic medical records system;
  • Proactively engages patients in communicating what to expect with the visit and continues to communicate delays or any other changes with the patient.
  • Initiates and performs documentation of the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and captures past medical history.
  • Accurately records all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements
  • Conducts tests and measures eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.
  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
  • Assists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, in an exam room or treatment room, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
  • Educates patients regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post operative instructions, as directed by physicians.
  • Readily scribes for physician
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential, following all HIPAA requirements.
  • Utilizes effective problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently de-escalate any dissatisfied patients
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms & ocular medications
  • Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions
  • Assists team members and completes other special projects as requested.
