Overview of Position: Under general supervision, the Clinical Systems Engineer manages the implementation, configuration, documentation, and initial testing of networked medical devices integrated with the Electronic Medical Record system. This role serves as the technical liaison between IT and Biomed, supporting medical device integration projects involving operating systems, system administration, interfaces, software applications, and network security. The position provides technical analysis and troubleshooting support for medical equipment connectivity issues while ensuring appropriate coordination, documentation, and collaboration across internal teams and external vendors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Manage networked medical device integration projects, including new installations, upgrades, updates, replacements, and related project documentation.
  • Define project scope, resource needs, timelines, technical specifications, and cost estimates in coordination with IT, Biomed, vendors, and organizational stakeholders.
  • Coordinate project meetings, vendor activities, milestones, and deliverables to ensure timely completion from initiation through implementation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between IT and Biomed, supporting workflows in ServiceNow and Biomed CMMS to ensure accurate technical documentation and ongoing support.
  • Coordinate and support clinical medical device infrastructure, including segmented clinical networks, interfaces, servers, and related systems.
  • Provide initial IT technical review and troubleshooting support for networked medical equipment connectivity, integration, and operational issues.
  • Oversee vendor work on medical device servers and ensure activities align with IT, Biomed, cybersecurity, and compliance requirements.
  • Support cybersecurity, compliance, and operational readiness activities for medical device servers and related infrastructure.
  • Partner with management and end users to define maintenance approaches, service requirements, and support standards for assigned technologies.
  • Analyze assigned systems and processes to identify improvement opportunities, recommend best practices, and implement leadership-approved changes.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, information technology, a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Three to five years of clinical engineering and/or information technology support experience is required, including at least three years of technology support experience in health care.
  • Ability to troubleshoot system integration technologies, including networking, HL7, FHIR, and APIs.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a complex and changing environment.
  • Working knowledge of clinical equipment regulatory standards, hospital design, and applicable building codes and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of information technology for clinical applications, including data storage, redundancy, backups, and recovery.
  • Ability to supervise vendor implementations.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and leadership skills.
