Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill, NC is seeking a Clinical Support Tech I (Nursing Assistant I + Clerical) for the Cardiovascular Acute Care unit. The role is 36 hours per week with 12-hour night shifts (7pm–7:30am) and weekend/holiday rotation, on-site at 5 Anderson.

You will assist in patient care, manage clerical tasks, and support an interdisciplinary team focused on excellent patient outcomes. Eligible for comprehensive benefits, PTO accruals, and state employment equity.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Nursing Assistant I certification in North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procures equipment and supplies.
• Reviews patient care documentation and notifies nurse/physician of significant changes.
• Performs clerical tasks: organizes workload, greets visitors, reviews and transcribes orders, maintains medical records, audits quality and inventory.
• Provides clinical support: area cleaning, equipment maintenance, linen changes, supply restocking, patient transport, orientation for new staff.
• Provides direct patient care as outlined in plan of care (bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation assistance, vital signs, etc.).
• Reinforces patient education and distributes materials.

Clinical Support Tech I (Nursing Assistant I + Clerical) needed for Cardiovascular Acute Care located on 5 Anderson. Come join our dedicated and supportive team focused on excellence in patient care and outcomes. We are a cardiovascular acute care 12-bed unit that utilizes an interdisciplinary team approach to provide patient and family centered care to vascular, cardiothoracic surgeries, heart failure and cardiology.

The Clinical Support Tech I is a dual role of the Health Unit Coordinator and a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) and is a valuable team member as they work closely with our nurses to care for our complex patient population.

This is a 36 hours per week position; working 12-hour night shifts (7pm - 7:30am) with weekend and holiday rotation. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTO hours, which are accrued based on the number of worked hours.

Summary

Responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms and performing a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of the patient care unit desk area functions.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
• Critically reviews patient care documentation making note of any significant changes in the patient's condition and make an immediate report to a registered nurse or physician.
• Provides a variety of clerical tasks to include but not limited to organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information as requested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, revising orders as requested by the nurse, answering the telephone/ patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Performs routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies. Provides administrative and clerical support including PI audits and data entry.
• Provides clinical support assistance to include, but not limited to, cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changing linens, checking supply inventory, re-stocking supplies, transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and students.
• Provides direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan of care activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation. Measures and records vital signs, and patient height and weight. May be responsible for specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range of motion exercises, and/or postural drainage.
• Reinforces routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distributes patient education materials at the request of patients and/or health care providers.

• Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements

• Must be fluent in verbal and written English language. Capability to develop computer skills if not competent.
