Job Summary

The Clinical Support Representative (CSR) supports the practice by performing clinical and administrative duties including assisting patients in exam rooms, updating documentation, and cleaning and sterilizing equipment.

Location and Details

Entity: Clinical Practices of University of Pennsylvania

Department: Dermatology Clinic

Location: Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine - 3400 Civic Center Blvd

Hours: Full-Time, Per Departmental Needs

Accountabilities

Patient Care Accountabilities

  • Promptly room patients, using EMR to alert the provider that the patient is ready.
  • Act as chaperone / patient observer during appointments or procedures if requested by patients.
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, undressing, and preparing for the exam; remain in the exam room when necessary or requested.
  • Functions as a witness for procedural consents if required.
  • Respond to emergency/code situations appropriately.

Clerical / Other Accountabilities

  • Obtain and scan documents as appropriate for the visit (test results, faxes, reports, notes, referrals, etc.).
  • Complete medical forms and other information requests as appropriate; prepare and send patient correspondence as required.
  • Assist clinical staff with maintenance of patient education materials as needed.
  • Promptly perform call-backs as directed by the provider and manager.
  • Provide patients with follow-up care instructions as instructed by the provider.

Environmental / Safety Accountabilities

  • Adhere to universal precautions and infection control policies; dispose of infectious waste properly; promote infection control by proper handwashing techniques.
  • Ensure patient care areas are neat, orderly, well stocked, and properly prepared.
  • Clean and disinfect instruments and equipment according to protocols; verify proper working order and notify Supervisor of malfunctions; set up equipment as per practice protocol.
  • Clean and restock equipment as needed; access secured areas to obtain items such as intravenous solutions and medication preparation supplies for stocking; secure stock items in appropriate locations.
  • Maintain medication storage closet inventory and security (as applicable), check expiration dates, and remove outdated items.

Other / Regulatory

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards (e.g., TJC, DOH, FDA, HIPAA, HCFA, DPW, LCME/SCGME, etc.).
  • Flexible and readily adopts new processes and engages in practice operation changes.
  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures; other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
Qualifications
  • HS Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program (Preferred)
  • 1+ years of related experience (Preferred)
