Job summary

Ridgeview Medical Center in Minnesota seeks a Nursing Support professional to perform patient care activities, assist providers, and support Lab and X-ray procedures in a clinical setting.

The role includes vitals, medication administration, room preparation, and patient education, with emphasis on teamwork and safe practice in a busy clinic environment.

Qualifications

• Graduation from Medical Assisting program or School of Practical Nursing.
• Graduate of clinical laboratory program and/or ability to display and complete job competencies.
• Current LPN Licensure or CMA or RMA; 1 year to become certified if LPN/MA.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients, obtain vitals and document in EMR.
• Administer prescribed meds and treatments per policy.
• Prepare equipment and assist during examination and testing.
• Perform room turnover between cases and day end.
• Assist with referrals and authorizations as needed.
• Provide patient education and support.
• Support Lab/X-ray functions as directed.

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for performing a variety of patient care related activities including: assisting the providers and performing a variety of diagnostic Lab and X-ray procedures according to established policies and procedures.

Job Functions

When performing nursing support functions

1. Escorts patients to examination room and obtains vitals and documents in EMR
2. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with clinic policies and scope of certification/licensure
3. Prepares equipment and assists providers during examination, testing and treatment of patients
4. Performs room turn over in patient rooms between cases and at the end of day
5. Assists in arranging referrals/prior authorizations as necessary
6. Assists with patient education
7. Performs other duties as assigned

When performing Lab and/or X-ray functions

1. Maintains stocked supplies and inventory
2. Sterilizes instruments, exam rooms and equipment
3. Performs testing procedures as required
4. Prepares procedure room/area and instructs patients
5. Troubleshoots and maintains equipment
6. Completes daily QA/QC procedures and provides maintenance/adjustments to equipment
7. Performs other duties as assigned

Employment Requirements

Minimum Education/Work Experience/License/Certifications

• Graduation from Medical Assisting program or School of Practical Nursing
• Graduate of clinical laboratory program and/or ability to display and complete job competencies
• Current LPN Licensure or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Assistant (RMA) (LPNs/MAs will have 1 year to become certified in order to maintain employment)
• Current CPR certification

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

• Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to work autonomously and as a team

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities when performing X-ray functions

• Knowledge of x-ray safety for patients and personnel
• Knowledge of proper patient positioning and state radiology regulations
• Skill in performing quality control and maintaining records
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and technique problems

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities when performing Lab functions

• Ability to troubleshoot problems with lab testing, equipment, patient samples, and kits
• Skill in performing quality control and maintaining records
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and technique problems

Preferred Qualifications

• EMR experience
• X-Ray Operator License (grandfathered prior to 2007) or completion of AART limited scope Operator examination per Minnesota Department of Health
• Previous lab experience

Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation such as: the requirements of the position, experience, education, knowledge, and skills along with location and internal equity. Pay listed does not include any shift, weekend, or other differentials.
