General Summary:
The clinical support associate is an allied health professional and member of the healthcare team who performs clerical and clinical duties to deliver quality healthcare services in an ambulatory setting.
Requirements:
- Age Specific: Demonstrates knowledge and ability to meet the needs of diverse patient populations, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Certified/Registered Medical Assistant with completion of a Medical Assistant program.
- Current BLS certification preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations and in ambulatory settings preferred.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, managing deadlines and interruptions effectively.
- Training or experience in ICD-9 coding and managed care insurance plans.
- Knowledge of universal precautions, MDCH, OSHA, and HIPAA standards.
- Attention to detail in medical records and documentation.
- Effective communication skills, organizational skills, and computer literacy.
- Minimum of one year experience in a medical office setting preferred.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Clinical functions:
- EPIC trained and certified, including reviewing reports, obtaining patient history, vital signs, and assisting with procedures.
- Prepare and administer medications, collect specimens, and ensure proper documentation and storage.
- Phone, scheduling, and related duties:
- Schedule appointments, verify insurance, and provide patient instructions.
- Greet patients, answer calls, and document communications accurately.
- Teamwork and collaboration:
- Attend meetings, participate in training, and support team building.
- Adhere to policies and suggest improvements.
- Referral functions:
- Handle referrals and authorizations, coordinate with providers and insurance, and ensure timely processing.
- Work environment and safety:
- Follow OSHA and infection control policies, maintain clean and organized work areas, and perform equipment testing.
- Knowledge and competence:
- Participate in drills, maintain competency, and pursue ongoing education.
- Service and communication:
- Communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate empathy and respect.
Other duties include maintaining knowledge of department protocols, participating in committees, and continuing professional development.
