Job Summary
The clinical support associate is an allied health professional and a member of the healthcare team who performs clerical and clinical duties to deliver quality healthcare services in an ambulatory setting.
Requirements
- Age-specific knowledge and ability to meet the needs of diverse patient populations including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- Certified/Registered Medical Assistant with completion of a Medical Assistant program.
- Current BLS certification preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations and in ambulatory settings.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing deadlines and interruptions effectively.
- Training or experience in ICD-9 coding and managed care insurance plans.
- Knowledge of universal precautions, MDCH, OSHA, and HIPAA standards.
- Attention to detail in medical records content and sequence.
- Effective communication skills, good time management, and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of computers.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office setting preferred.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Clinical duties including reviewing and printing MICR reports, obtaining patient history, vital signs, and other diagnostic information, alerting physicians of deviations, assisting with exams, preparing and administering medications, collecting specimens, and documenting in EPIC.
- Scheduling patients, verifying insurance, providing instructions, and coordinating appointments and procedures.
- Greet and assist patients and visitors, answer phones, document messages, and respond to emergency calls.
- Participate in team meetings, complete compliance and training requirements, and adhere to policies and procedures.
- Assist with referrals, authorizations, and coordinate specialist appointments, ensuring proper documentation and communication with insurance and healthcare providers.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment following OSHA and infection control policies.
- Maintain competency in medication administration, procedures, and equipment use.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and staff, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participation in committees and ongoing education.
