The pay range for this position is $86,500- $118,000 per year.

The Clinical Supervisor - Surge is responsible for the coordination and supervision of clinical nursing practice in the facility’s medical program. The CNS - Surge regularly travels and is deployed to provide clinical oversight and coordination at facilities where the CNS position is vacant or where clinical compliance needs exist based on corporate goals, objectives and philosophy in compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards of patient care using sound, independent judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer.
- Coordinates with the Warden/Facility Administrator or Health Service Administrator for daily clinical operations within the medical department.
- Manages, monitors and supervises daily nursing/clinical activities, within scope of licensure and all required contractual services for appropriateness and maximum efficiency.
- Supervises nursing and non-licensed health care providers in the performance of their duties and evaluates as prescribed by the facility and corporate policy.This includes training new employees and/or CNS, evaluating performance and preparing written performance reviews, conducting nursing clinical competencies skills workshops, listening to complaints and effectively resolving disputes or issues, taking corrective or disciplinary action, developing work schedules for subordinates and approving leave requests.
- Provides direct patient care as indicated within scope of licensure; applies appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of inmates/residents as indicated but not limited to performing sick call through triage and physical assessments, operating pill call, performing intakes, direct emergency care and procedures and assisting with chronic clinic.
- Assists in the effective management of facility/department resources by conducting physical inventories and assisting with development of Periodic Automatic Replenishment (PAR) levels.
- Assists in monitoring inmate/resident hospitalizations/outpatient procedures for appropriate utilization and reviews medical files to determine all provided services are documented. Performs regular audits of charts.
- Prepares and maintains a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary and/or operational records, reports and logs, using appropriate grammar, to include filing, alphabetizing and labeling. Reviews reports and records produced on the shifts; properly processes all reports and documents in a timely manner.
- Provides for adequate staffing at the facility, fills in as needed during periods of short staffing and accepts call status as necessary.
- Complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances. Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary, as directed or required.
- Inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband by inmate/residents and securely stores or safely disposes of supplies and equipment.
- Communicates effectively and coherently to administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors and the general public, particularly in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, understanding, fairness, firmness and good judgment. Reviews, processes and responds (via corporate counsel) to lawsuits; attend court hearings, when necessary.
- Attends and helps conduct scheduled staff meetings. Promotes communications and the proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit.
- Monitors safety practices within the department and prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures. Takes appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
- Initiates and completes investigations and inquiries with accuracy as directed, gathers information and evidence, interviews and obtains statements; exercises independent judgment by determining when probable cause exists to recommend disciplinary action.
- Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
- Domestic U.S. travel is required.
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited college or university nursing program with a diploma / degree in nursing.
- Must possess an active, unencumbered multi-state nursing licensure.
- Two years of supervisory nursing experience is required.
- Must demonstrate excellent communication skills and possess a strong knowledge base of clinical nursing and knowledge of correctional custody methods and techniques, pertinent facility rules, regulations and standards, and basic principle/practices of management.
- Must have a basic working knowledge of computer and office equipment.
- Must be able to travel to remote work locations.
