The Clinical Supervisor - RN’s primary responsibility is to plan, organize and direct clinical functions of the individual office. They participate in clinical and practice-wide decisions and works closely with administrative and medical staff in coordinating patient care service functions at the individual office. This position performs nursing activities in the operating room, answers patient needs by assisting the physician and person responsible for anesthesia care, and monitors patient post anesthesia care unit. They start IV’s and assist with conscious sedation and post sedation monitoring.

- Supports risk management and participates in programs directed to patient and staff safety.
- Considers patient rights in performance of job duties and responsibilities.
- Contributes to the quality management process; identifies role and contributions upon request.
- Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
- Reports observed or suspected violations, hazards, and noncompliance according to practice policy.
- Observes safety measures in performance of job duties and responsibilities.
- Responds to emergency situations with competence and composure.
- Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, doctors, and co-workers.
- Interactions are respectful and courteous.
- Objectively evaluates suggestions and processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care or seeks further guidance, as needed.
- Communicates effectively and professionally using a translator when necessary.
- Communicates effectively to promote effective patient flow and to avoid scheduling conflicts.
- Performs clinical coordinator duties and responsibilities.
- Ensures Practice policies and procedures are consistently implemented and followed. Provides assistance with developing policies and procedures.
- Ensures smooth office flow.
- Maintains confidentiality and unbiased treatment of staff members.
- Meets monthly or as needed with team to ensure effective communication.
- Trains or oversees training of new employees.
- Conducts, assists with, or provides feedback for clinical staff performance appraisals.
- Maintains and promotes professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences.
- Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities.
- Performs nursing duties and responsibilities.
- Performs designated nursing duties (starting IV’s, giving medications, drug counts, drawing blood, etc.).
- Mains responsible party for checking crash cart or act as support person.
- Reviews schedule at least one week in advance and prepares as necessary (make sure implants, abutments, splints, stents, etc. are available at the appropriate office).
- Assists doctors with OR cases and surgical procedures (extractions, biopsies, implants, bone grafts, etc.); suction, irrigation, pass instruments, cut sutures, etc.
- Performs office procedures as directed (remove surgical splints, fit splints, remove sutures, place packs, etc.)
- Communicates with sales reps and OR staff to notify of special needs for OR cases.
- Completes verbal orders (impressions, prescription requests, etc.).
- Prepares patient and room set-up for appropriate procedure/exam.
- Reviews post-op instructions with surgery patients.
- Reviews charts/paperwork before doctor sees patient, completes appropriate paperwork.
- Collects and enters comprehensive and precise information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participates in all mandatory EMR and clinical application training and optimization opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Nursing
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- Current state licensure
- CPR certification
- ACLS and PALS
- Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification (DAANCE) or obtained within 1 year of hire date
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Ambulatory or Oral and Maxillofacial surgery experience (2-3 years preferred)
- NC dental x-ray certification
- Management training and experience preferred
