Position Overview

Under the direction of the Practice Leadership, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the clinical leadership of daily activities in the practice and leads practice‑based clinical staff.

Location & Hours

Location: Penn Medicine Media Internal Medicine – 605 W. State St

Hours: Full‑Time, Monday‑Friday, 8:30‑5

Accountabilities

Clinical Services

  • Ensure clinic services are delivered in a safe, efficient, and competent manner; develop and update systems for clinic flow, equipment maintenance, supply availability, and environmental safety.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of needs, considering future directions for clinical services, patient capacity, and staffing needs in collaboration with leadership; participate in strategic planning for future expansion related to the department.
  • Ensure delivery of patient care by self and the clinical team is safe, competent, and individualized within established guidelines and policies.
  • Review clinical documentation for compliance, provide staff education, and oversee POCT processes.
  • Investigate and resolve any safety concerns related to the clinical practice.
  • Participate in direct patient care activities as needed.
  • Maintain clinical leadership knowledge by participating in nursing and medical conferences and related activities.

Department Management

  • Manage and supervise the delivery of care by practice‑based clinical staff; utilize available staff to provide optimal care and evaluate patient schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels for patient needs and department operations.
  • Serve as manager to clinical staff: interview and select new staff, orient new hires, maintain competencies, handle performance management, record time worked in eStar, and hold self and staff accountable to established expectations.
  • Ensure optimal patient flow, address practice needs, and elevate operational issues to Practice Leadership.
  • Order clinical supplies and equipment and oversee requisitions, maintaining adequate inventory while focusing on cost containment and budgetary controls.
  • Act as a teacher and role model for clinical and non‑clinical staff.

Staffing

  • Delegate duties to appropriate staff according to licensure and training; oversee the work of the clinical staff and instruct them on new procedures.
  • Make assessments and develop plans for effective utilization of staff; develop standard staffing guidelines, cleared by Practice Leadership as needed with scheduling.
  • Develop and implement processes for appropriate triage of all clinical calls.

Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.

Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Required)
  • 5+ years of experience as a professional nurse (Required)
  • 3+ years of managerial experience, ideally in a fast‑paced healthcare setting (Preferred)
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
  • Current BLS certification through AHA (Required)
  • Current RN licensure for the state in which you work (NJ) (Required)
