Responsibilities

Clinical Supervisor- Opioid Clinic

OTP Clinical program supervision is the provision of guidance, feedback, and training to staff to assure that quality services are provided to beneficiaries and maintaining and facilitating the supervisee’s competence and capability to best serve beneficiaries in an effective manner. Clinical program supervision is a critical factor in determining the appropriate acquisition of evidence-based practices by supervised staff. The OTP Clinical Supervisor is responsible for collaborating with the Program Director to maintain and develop the clinical staff as well as promoting the clinical integrity of the program. Primary responsibilities include providing direct clinical services, providing clinical supervision to the therapists, developing and maintaining a robust program schedule, and routine review of clinical services documented in the patient record. The OTP Clinical Supervisor develops and implements clinical services that are in alignment with regulatory standards as well as best-practice guidelines. Clinical support and supervision are a primary function of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervisors shall assume responsibility for the professional activities of the supervisee under their supervision.
  • Supervisors shall not provide supervision for activities for which supervisees have not had appropriate education.
  • Supervisors shall provide supervision only for those substance abuse counseling services that they are qualified to render.
  • At the time of the application for certification by examination, the board-approved supervisor shall document minimal competencies in the areas in 18VAC115-30-60 B 6, the total hours of supervision, and any needs for additional supervision or training. The supervisor shall document successful completion of the applicant's supervised experience on the Verification of Supervision Form and shall maintain documentation for five years post supervision.
  • Supervision by any individual whose relationship to the supervisee compromises the objectivity of the supervisor is prohibited.
  • Supervises the clinical work of the counselors, including providing and documenting individual and group supervision.
  • Conduct chart audits to ensure that clinical documentation meets state and federal requirements.
  • Maintains active involvement with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers and develops processes to enhance patient retention and flow.
  • Maintains a patient caseload proportionate to the number of counselors supervised.
  • Ensures the implementation of program orientation for patients.
  • Completes, monitors, and ensures the completion of assessments, treatment plans, continuing care, and discharge plans in accordance with policy and procedure, specific to the needs of the person served.
  • Conducts or facilitates delivery of group therapy services to enrolled patients; maintains and monitors completion of the required documentation.
  • Develops and maintains clinical staff who are competent to provide the clinical services.
  • Identifies and addresses individual and departmental clinical training needs.
  • Functions as a resource to other OTP staff on clinical issues, as needed.
  • Contribute to performance reviews of clinical staff.
  • Promotes the ethical and professional conduct of clinical staff.
  • Maintain clinical compliance with state and federal regulatory entities.
