Job description

The Clinical Nursing Supervisor facilitates daily nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, assists with overall unit compliance with JCAHO standards, and collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to meet patient clinical needs.

The Clinical Nursing Supervisor in General Surgical Nursing supports the objectives of the Director of Medical Surgical Nursing and is responsible for the clinical management and day-to-day operations of the unit.

Qualifications
  1. Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing
  2. Education Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  3. Licenses or Certifications Required: Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board for GA locations and Alabama Licensing Board for AL locations; BLS certification
  4. Licenses or Certifications Preferred: ACLS certification; Certification in related specialty
  5. Experience Required: Progressive leadership; Administrative and clinical competencies
  6. Experience Preferred: 2 years operating room experience
Role Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Quality Patient Care: Participates in performance improvement activities, directs patient care, makes daily rounds, and ensures staff compliance with care protocols.
  2. Unit Staffing: Assesses staffing needs, monitors compliance, and ensures appropriate staff assignments.
  3. Unit Specific Education: Conducts learning needs assessments, facilitates orientation, and assists with competencies and education.
  4. Unit Specific Data: Collects performance data, reviews charts for compliance, and participates in quality initiatives.
  5. Projects and Reports: Completes data collection, manages supplies and equipment maintenance.
  6. Nursing Care: Completes leader rounds, resolves patient concerns, maintains communication with physicians, and leads discharge planning efforts.
  7. Safety and Security: Conducts safety checks, adheres to infection control principles, and maintains confidentiality.
  8. Professional Development: Represents the organization professionally, attends staff meetings, and participates in CQI activities.
  9. Continuing Education: Completes required competencies and obtains ongoing education hours.
