Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System is expanding its Neuro Expansion project on the Main Campus. We seek a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist to join a multidisciplinary team in the Speech/Language Pathology department.

The role focuses on evaluating and treating adults with dysphagia, speech, language, and cognitive disorders, including tracheostomy and ventilator dependency, in an advanced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology required.
  • Current SLP license from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology and CCC-SLP certification required.
  • Completion of a nine-month clinical fellowship year.
  • Experience evaluating and treating adults with dysphagia, speech, language, and cognitive disorders in inpatient hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic speech pathology testing and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients.
  • Interpret and report test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.
  • Provide counseling and education about communication disorders to patients and families.
  • Determine therapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus, prognosis and duration.
  • Maintain records of all services and communicate results to referral sources and outside agencies.

The Section of Speech-Language Pathology at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist (40 hours per week) to join its acute care hospital team. This position offers the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing state-of-the-art clinical care. Applicants should have a strong clinical interest in the neurological conditions along with expertise in evaluating and treating adults with dysphagia, speech, language, and cognitive disorders, as well as tracheostomy and ventilator dependency. The ideal candidate will independently perform and interpret Modified Barium Swallow Studies. Experience with Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing is preferred. Qualified applicants must hold ASHA’s CCC-SLP credential and be eligible for licensure in Ohio. This position cannot accommodate those seeking a Clinical Fellowship or candidates without inpatient hospital experience.

This is a full-time role. A caregiver in this position works8:00am to 5:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures andevaluatecommunication and swallowing function of patients.

  • Interpret andreportsontest results tofacilitatemedical diagnosis.

  • Provide counseling and education about communication anddiagnosisto patients and their families.

  • Determinetherapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention,prognosisand duration of therapy.

  • Select assistive speech devices to improvepatientcommunication.

  • Perform re-evaluation todetermineprogress after therapy.

  • Provide observations about hearing and otherbehaviorto helpdeterminethe needfor other services.

  • Maintain records of all services.

  • Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such schools and employers.

  • Maintain speech pathology equipment and materials.

  • Assistwith planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting, purchase of new equipment or materials.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Master’sDegree inSpeech/LanguagePathology

  • Current Speech-Language Pathology License (SP)from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology

  • Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)

  • Completion of anine-monthclinical fellowship year

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform tests.
