Job Summary
The Clinical Specialist is a mental health professional who reports directly to the Division VP. This position is primarily clinical and consultative in nature, providing services to all supported housing programs (both single- and scatter site) throughout the cluster. While not carrying formal supervisory responsibilities, the VP may deputize the Clinical Specialist to delegate and monitor certain tasks to staff at the Program Director level and below in relevant Supported Housing (SH) programs.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist Program Directors and case management staff in providing quality clinical and crisis management services across supported housing, mainly through consultation and training.
- Consult on challenging clinical cases involving high-risk consumers, co-morbid conditions, or compliance issues, maintaining a caseload for these consumers while primary services are managed by case management staff.
- Organize and facilitate internal case conferences to design and implement person-centered, evidence-based interventions.
- Attend external case conferences and participate in discharge planning decisions involving supported housing, inpatient settings, detox/rehab programs, etc.
- Conduct risk assessments in supported housing, ensuring completion and informing staff about high-risk consumers’ status, managing follow-up actions.
- Provide staff training and co-facilitate groups as needed, including skills training and wellness activities.
- Oversee the clinical quality and integrity of service planning and utilization review, providing staff training in these areas.
- Participate actively in Clinical-High Risk Meetings and all supported housing-related meetings.
- Assist in determining readiness for transition to supported housing, identifying and addressing skills training needs.
- Participate in discharge planning and case conference meetings.
- Conduct intake assessments for new admissions, evaluate ADLs, and review documentation such as Support Plans, progress notes, and risk assessments.
- Perform administrative and operational tasks as assigned and perform other job-related duties.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to coordinate activities within a multidisciplinary team and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work respectfully with consumers, families, and staff, considering cultural differences.
- Competence in developing, evaluating, and modifying case management plans, meeting deadlines and standards.
- Effective communication skills with staff, consumers, families, and the public.
- Knowledge of human behavior, mental health assessment, and behavioral disorders.
- Understanding of group dynamics, societal influences, and cultural dimensions.
- Knowledge of service provision principles, needs assessment, and consumer satisfaction evaluation.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork and travel as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
MSW, MHC, or Master in Psychology, with at least one year of experience providing direct mental health services and clinical supervision or consultation.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
LMSW or LMHC licensure preferred, with experience in case management for individuals with mental illness and substance issues. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required.
