Who We Are

Inspired by Jewish tradition to make the world a better place, JFS empowers and supports people in need to meet their challenges. For generations, our clinical, community, and family programs have been a steady, caring presence in St. Louis — and our staff are the reason for that. We're a team that leads with Kindness, treats every person with Dignity, and holds ourselves to a high standard of Integrity, in how we care for clients and how we treat each other.

We're proud to be a warm, inclusive workplace where people of every background, tradition, and life experience are welcomed and valued — because the work of repairing the world takes all of us.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Clinical Services Director (CSD) to help lead the next chapter of JFS's clinical programs. This is a hands‑on leadership role: you'll set strategy and direction for our clinical team for in‑office counselors, school‑based therapists, and the Assessment and Psychiatric Services Manager, make sure our clients get consistent, high‑quality, equitable care, and be the kind of leader your team can bring their toughest questions to. You'll partner closely with our Chief Program Officer and collaborate with clinical, program, and administrative colleagues across the agency.

If you're a licensed clinical leader who wants your work to matter — and wants to build a program grounded in real evidence, real compassion, and real accountability — we'd love to talk with you.

What You'll Do

Lead Clinical Strategy & Innovation

  • Set the direction. Guide the planning, development, and day‑to‑day leadership of all JFS clinical programs, with goals and policies that connect back to our mission.
  • Bring fresh thinking. Champion creative, evidence‑based solutions that genuinely move the needle on client outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Stay tuned to the community. Track emerging community needs and match them with the interventions most likely to help, using data and good judgment to prioritize where clinical resources go.
  • Measure what matters. Apply sound evaluation methods to monitor program performance, interpret outcome data, and drive continuous quality improvement.

Champion Client Care & Equity

  • Put clients first. Keep client wellbeing at the center of every decision, maintaining care standards that produce positive, equitable outcomes for everyone we serve.
  • Keep us compliant and ethical. Ensure clinical practice meets every applicable federal and state regulation, accreditation standard, and documentation/confidentiality requirement.
  • Drive quality, together. Serve on the Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) team, using data to sharpen how we deliver care.
  • Lead with equity. Ensure equitable access and outcomes for all clients, and guide the clinical department’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work.

Grow Our Team

  • Build a great team. Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and promote clinical staff, and cultivate a supportive, high‑performing culture grounded in JFS’s values.
  • Invest in people. Organize ongoing training that keeps the team current on best‑practice standards and evidence‑based methods.
  • Meet people where they are. Flex your communication and supervisory style to support staff across a range of roles, backgrounds, and situations — including sensitive, high‑stress moments.

Manage Operations & Resources

  • Keep things running smoothly. Oversee clinical service delivery and its associated administrative operations, balancing multiple priorities with strong follow‑through.
  • Think like an owner. Understand the financial drivers of the clinical department and help build strategies that support JFS's long‑term sustainability.
  • Make sound calls. Exercise good judgment on clinical, operational, and financial questions — weighing evidence, regulations, and JFS’s priorities.

Represent JFS

  • Be a face of JFS. Represent the agency at community and business meetings, and help promote our programs to a diverse range of partners and stakeholders.
  • Live the mission. Model teamwork and support for JFS's mission and values in everything you do.

What You'll Bring

Education & Experience

  • A graduate degree in clinical social work, counseling, or psychology.
  • At least five years of clinical supervisory experience.

Licensure

  • Current Missouri licensure as a clinical social worker, counselor, or clinical psychologist.

Skills & Strengths

  • Deep knowledge of clinical best practices, evidence‑based treatment, and outcome measurement.
  • A knack for spotting what's not working and building a better way to do it.
  • Comfort with evaluation and statistical methods — you like what the data tells you.
  • A steady hand for supervising and developing a team, and building a culture people want to be part of.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, and the ability to connect with a wide range of people across a diverse community.
  • The compassion and composure to handle sensitive, confidential matters — crisis intervention, abuse, domestic violence, identity‑related concerns, substance use, and family transitions — with care and professionalism.
  • General comfort with everyday office technology.

Why You'll Love It Here

This role comes with real influence — you'll shape how JFS delivers clinical care for years to come — and real support: a mission‑driven team, a culture that takes Kindness, Dignity, and Integrity seriously, and colleagues who show up for each other. You'll do meaningful work, with people who genuinely have your back.

Some travel is involved for meetings with partners, schools, and community sites, and the role is based out of our St. Louis office with time in the community as needed.
