Job description

As an Ophthalmic Scribe, you will work alongside physicians, dictating into the patient's chart and assisting with minor in-office procedures.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (Late night 1 x month - Tuesdays in Stow/Kent, 8am-8pm)

What you will be doing
  • Bring patients to and from exam rooms
  • Perform detailed documentation of patient work-ups and OD/MD comments in the patient's electronic medical record
  • Complete patient encounter forms based on determined diagnoses
  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
  • Provide chair-side physician assistance and administer treatment as ordered by the physician
  • Review care instructions with patients
  • Complete detailed patient histories, including past medical history, family medical history, and chief complaints
  • Check patient's visual acuity, including far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception
  • Examine eyes for abnormalities
  • Perform tests and measurements such as A-scans, B-scans, fundus photography, corneal topography, HRTII, and pachymetry
  • Measure intraocular pressure (glaucoma test)
  • Read patient's eyeglass prescriptions with automated lensometry
  • Prepare exam rooms for treatment
  • Maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA regulations
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications
  • Stay current with latest technologies and medications, and answer general patient questions
What you know
Required:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive
  • Efficient computer skills and ability to type 40+ words per minute
Desired:
  • Experience as a Medical Scribe
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Entry level (0-3 years of experience)
