Job description

The Clinical Supervisor (CS) is a registered nurse with responsibility to assist the Nurse Manager. The CS provides clinical supervision and coordinates unit clinical operations with other departmental disciplines under the direction of the Nurse Manager. The CS provides effective patient care on assigned shifts and as directed. The CS will assume the responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in their absence.

The Clinical Supervisor oversees daily unit operations during their shifts. The CS has direct supervision of nursing staff who deliver nursing care in the clinical area as well as accountability of a subset of nursing staff for performance review and professional development.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides and supervises direct patient care including patient assignment as appropriate.
  • Serves in the role of unit charge nurse.
  • Reviews major operational patient care issues with Nurse Manager regularly.
  • Provides ongoing clinical evaluation of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care associates on assigned unit.
  • Collaborates with Nursing Supervisor on unit and house wide issues.
  • Counsels employees on performance issues, administers initial corrective actions, collaborates in monitoring attendance issues.
  • Alerts nurse manager of significant clinical or other performance issues.
  • Participates in interviewing, selecting and appraising the performance of employees.
  • Prepares schedule and staff assignments assuring adequate coverage on all shifts.
  • Participates in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives; participates in unit and hospital committees as assigned.
  • Assists in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current professional practice standards, laws, and regulations that affect the care of children and families
  • Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate the management of patient care
  • Understands and adheres to budgetary plans
  • Assists the Nurse Manager in providing a professional work environment
  • Role models and maintains Service Excellence Standards

Position Requirements

  • BSN required
  • Minimum two years Pediatric experience required.
  • Professional certification required within one year of hire.
  • AHA Healthcare courses required on hire BLS Health Care Provider and PALS
