Job summary

Brightli seeks a Clinical Risk Specialist to remotely lead investigations of patient safety events and other incidents from a Springfield, Missouri base. You will establish investigation plans, interview involved staff, and analyze clinical data to identify contributing factors and corrective actions.

You will facilitate Root Cause Analyses, Apparent Cause Analyses, and mortality reviews while partnering with operational leaders to monitor improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field or equivalent experience.
  • Three years of healthcare experience are required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in quality, patient safety, or risk management is preferred.
  • Clinical quality credentials preferred (e.g., CPHQ, CPPS).

Responsibilities

  • Lead objective investigations of patient safety events and other significant incidents.
  • Develop investigation plans and determine scope, methodology, and approach.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analyses, Apparent Cause Analyses, and mortality reviews.
  • Interview involved individuals using professional, trauma-informed communication.
  • Collect and analyze clinical documentation and supporting evidence.
  • Develop corrective action recommendations and partner to implement plans.
  • Prioritize investigations according to requirements and risk.
  • Provide consultation to leaders on incident reporting and processes.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Safety Organization for protected analysis.
  • Support responses to regulatory inquiries and incident-related requests.
  • Maintain accurate investigation documentation and perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead objective investigations of patient safety events and other reportable or significant organizational incidents in accordance with established enterprise guidelines.
  • Develop investigation plans and determine the appropriate scope, methodology, and approach based on event type and risk level.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analyses, Apparent Cause Analyses, and mortality reviews to identify system issues, contributing factors, and opportunities for organizational improvement.
  • Interview team members and other involved individuals using professional, objective, and trauma-informed communication practices.
  • Collect and analyze clinical documentation, incident information, and other supporting evidence.
  • Develop corrective action recommendations and partner with operational leaders to implement and monitor action plans.
  • Prioritize investigations according to organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide consultation to leaders and team members regarding incident reporting and investigation processes.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Safety Organization by providing incident information that supports protected patient safety analysis.
  • Support organizational responses to regulatory inquiries, surveys, and requests for incident-related information.
  • Participate in enterprise safety committees and collaborate with Clinical Excellence, Accreditation & Quality Governance, Client Voice & Experience, and operational leadership.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and organized investigation documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Behavioral Health, Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Psychology, or a related healthcare field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Three years of healthcare experience.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in quality, patient safety, clinical operations, compliance, or risk management preferred.
  • Experience participating in incident investigations preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, Certified Professional in Patient Safety, or licensed clinical professional credential preferred.
Additional Qualifications
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient safety principles and Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
  • Apply systems thinking, clinical judgment, and strong analytical and critical-thinking skills when evaluating complex incidents.
  • Demonstrate strong interviewing and communication skills.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential situations professionally.
  • Influence corrective action and organizational improvement without direct authority.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Just Culture principles preferred.
Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an office, clinical, residential, and/or community-based environment depending on role and assignment. The position may involve routine use of office, clinical, or electronic systems and equipment. Duties may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working at a computer. Work hours may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended shifts based on program needs. This position is classified as sedentary work. Sedentary work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
