Job summary

Lifeline of Ohio is seeking a Clinical Responder to provide on-site response to area hospitals, collaborating with Family services, Hospital Development, Organ Recovery, and partner hospital clinical teams to evaluate donor referrals and plan donation.

The role requires a high school diploma and Allied Health certification, with night shift hours 7p-7a and reliable transportation to partner hospital sites within our service area.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Current Allied Health certification required (e.g. Medical or Nursing Assistant, PCA, Phlebotomy, ST, EMT, Technician, LPN, etc).
  • Associate's degree in a clinical field of expertise, or equivalent combination of certification and experience preferred.
  • Two years of emergency or critical care experience in a healthcare setting or hospital preferred.
  • Ability to work night shift hours, 7p-7a.
  • Effective knowledge of anatomy and clinical care principles.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to donor referrals on-site within one hour, travel permitting.
  • Learn and apply clinical aspects of suitability evaluation to determine donation viability.
  • Conduct comprehensive suitability evaluations with organ recovery coordinator and team lead.
  • Monitor candidate status daily with hospital staff until authorization.
  • Transition suitable donors to the Family Services team to obtain donation authorization.
  • Assist in charting responsibilities of the organ recovery team; other duties as assigned.

Description
Major Role:

Consistent with the mission, vision and values of Lifeline of Ohio, the Clinical Responder provides on-site response to area hospitals in collaboration with Family services, Hospital Development, Organ Recovery, and partner hospital clinical teams. The Clinical Responder evaluates the suitability of patient referrals for all potential organ donors and develop a plan with the healthcare team to maintain the option of donation.

**This is a full-time, hourly position during NIGHT SHIFT. Typical hours are 7p-7a.***MUST have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation to travel to partner hospital sites within our service area.
Responsibilities:

1. Quickly respond to donor referrals received by Donation Support Services from hospital partners, conducting on-site follow-up.

  • On-site referral response to partner hospital within one hour, travel permitting
  • Learn and apply clinical aspects of suitability evaluation to better evaluate the viability of potential candidates.

2. Conduct comprehensive suitability evaluations of potential organ donor referrals in conjunction with organ recovery coordinator and team lead.

  • Evaluate donor candidate eligibility based on applicable standards and regulations.
  • Evaluate past and current medical conditions and check for positive and negative trends in labs as leading indicators to evaluate whether a referral represents a realistic opportunity for donation.

3. Monitor candidate status daily in collaboration with hospital staff as long as referrals remain potential donors.

  • Re-evaluate candidates daily to confirm suitability for donation until authorization.
  • Update donor chart daily and after following authorization

4. Transition suitable donors to the Family Services team to obtain authorization for donation.

5. Assist in charting responsibilities of organ recovery team

6. Other duties as assigned

Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma required.
