Job summary

Atrium Health Cabarrus is seeking a Clinical Respiratory Specialist to join its multidisciplinary respiratory care team in Concord, NC. The role focuses on delivering expert respiratory therapy in an acute care environment, with emphasis on patient education and care coordination.

Qualified candidates are NBRC-credentialed RRTs, licensed in the state, with at least 2 years of critical care experience. BLS is required, and advanced facility-specific certifications may be pursued.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support for healthcare providers required.

  • Minimum 2 years of critical care experience in an acute care facility.

Responsibilities

  • Independently evaluates therapies and recommends plans of care and patient education.

Job description

As a Clinical Respiratory Specialist, you will join a collaborative multidisciplinary team providing expert respiratory care in a dynamic acute care environment, with opportunities to care for diverse patient populations while contributing to Atrium Health's commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and compassionate care.

The Clinical Specialist serves as an expert for clinical teams. A Clinical Specialist can also assist in the coordination and operation of specific programs within the Respiratory Care Department. Programs may include Education, Performance Improvement, Pulmonary Disease Management, Outpatient Services, and Research.

Major Responsibilities
  • Independently evaluates current therapies using appropriate judgment and protocols, making proper recommendations concerning plans of care and patient education needs.
  • Serves as Department liaison and communicates pertinent information to multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Assists in the coordination and ongoing development of specific programs within the Respiratory Care Department.
  • Documents therapy and results as required by hospital, department and regulatory agencies. Communicates information to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
  • Works independently in all patient care areas and assists co-workers with patient care whenever possible. Is proficient in the electronic medical records and its interface with the Respiratory Care Department.
  • Follows departmental safety guidelines. Completes all regulatory requirements. Completes annual proficiency evaluation of respiratory care equipment and procedures.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
  • Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required. Currently licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner/Licensed Respiratory Therapist in the State in which they work. Basic Life Support for healthcare providers thru the American Heart Association required. Advanced certification per facility/department.
Education Required
  • Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy required. Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy required (or equivalent experience may be considered).
Experience Required
  • 2 years of critical care experience in an acute care facility is required.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Requires repetitive physical activity. Able to walk and stand to perform duties. Ability to lift 20-50 pounds. Ability to move patients of all age groups. Adequate hearing and eyesight are necessary. Exposure to a working environment that may include odors, low lighting, and crowded working conditions.
