Job summary

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Clinical Research Supervisor to administratively coordinate clinical protocol implementation for a single study or multiple studies. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University conduct clinical trialsand clinical studies to discover new ways to prevent and treatdiseases and other health problems. The Department of Radiology isseeking a Clinical Research Supervisor whoadministratively coordinates clinical protocol implementation for asingle study or multiple studies. A primary responsibility will besupervision of a minimum of two full-time research team memberscarrying out protocol-related operational tasks.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all activities of a clinical research study toensure adherence to protocol and validity of findings.
  • Facilitate administrative hiring processes and participate instaff interviews and hiring decisions.
  • Delegate and oversee performance of study tasks.
  • Set performance goals, coach staff, and conduct performanceevaluations.
  • Participate in clinical study start-up meeting.
  • Assist research nurses, principal investigators, and otherstudy personnel in executing protocol-related activities.
  • Understand and explain the study background and rationale forthe research to potential and current participants and/or assignedresearch staff.
  • Contribute to the recruitment strategy for participants forassigned study.
  • Implement a variety of techniques for recruitment as needed,e.g. print and web-based advertisements, contact referringphysicians, participate in community events, etc. and involve andoversee staff.
  • Independently conduct the consenting process or ensure consentis obtained on appropriate participants by trained staff.
  • Contact, or oversee contact of, participants to schedule forrequired activities and with special instructions prior to upcomingtests/exams.
  • Assist with, or oversee the setup of, the data collectionsystem and entry and organization of data.
  • Assist in coordinating study meetings.
  • Participate in study meetings and provide updates on protocolimplementation status and make recommendations on operationalissues.
  • Assist with the preparation of submissions to the InstitutionalReview Board (IRB).
  • Liaison with the IRB on administrative matters and facilitatecommunications with PI.
  • Conduct literature searches to provide backgroundinformation.
  • Obtain and maintain excellent operating knowledge of assignedclinical protocols, clinical equipment, and clinical computersystems.
  • Oversee budget expenditures for study operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Starting Salary Range: $42,120 - $75,400 Annually ($70,000targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition ofemployment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employeeswho provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination orpossess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meetthis requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas,laboratories, working with research subjects, or involvingcommunity contact requires documentation of immune status againstRubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received theTdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may includedocumentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicellavaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratorytesting. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases areordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except forthose employees who provide results of blood tests or immunizationdocumentation from their own health care providers. Anyvaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no costin our Occupational Health office.
