Job Summary

The Clinical Research Coordinator will perform independently or with general direction at the fully operational journey level of the series to execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols, as directed by the Clinical Research Supervisor and/or Principal Investigator (PI) in the Department of Pediatrics. This role will serve within the Division of Rheumatology. May coordinate the data collection and operations of several concurrent clinical research studies under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF and regulating agency policies.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $34.32 - $55.19 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

Pediatric rheumatology helps to diagnose and treat autoimmune conditions that are extremely rare with few FDA approved medications, so working with our team can help to make a huge impact! We are focused on improving the lives of children with autoimmune conditions. Our group conducts a wide range of clinical, translational, and outcomes research. Some highlights include:

  • Collaborative Network (CARRA): active site in the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), multicenter studies, patient registry and biorepository to advance treatment and outcomes in rare pediatric rheumatic diseases.
  • Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM): local JDM registry and biorepository called JUMP; translational research to identify precision medicine approaches; CAR-T therapy clinical trial.
  • Childhood Lupus and Related Conditions: several interventional trials including novel CAR-T therapy.
  • Health Outcomes and Equity: research on social determinants of health, including studies on how social factors and resilience impact juvenile arthritis.

Our team at Benioff Children’s Hospital includes 16 clinicians across San Francisco and Oakland sites, with 10 active studies and 2 research coordinators. We are adding a full-time coordinator to support growing research efforts.

Required Qualifications
  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication; ability to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions and companies; ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with a diverse subject population.
  • Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in a clinical research setting.
  • Bilingual Spanish speakers.
  • BA/BS with biology coursework.
  • Experience with regulations and guidelines including Good Clinical Practice, HIPAA, The Protection of Human Research Subjects, CHR regulations, cash handling procedures, EHST, Fire Safety Training.
  • Fluency with CHR online iMEDris system for protocol submissions, renewals, and modifications.
  • Understanding of patient population to establish rapport and determine realistic participation expectations.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of UCSF policies on reimbursement, confidentiality and HIPAA; familiarity with patient safety and confidentiality policies; experience with data management and analysis tools (e.g., Access, Stata, SPSS).
